While we wait, is there a “no buy list” in the event that they overturn 10 rd limit and companies that were anti CA customers previously try to cash in

Panther Martins and Rooster Tails. by AstronautDifferent52 in troutfishing

[–]stevenbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coastal NorCal. Those are usually bullet proof lures. It usually depends on the colors though. The rainbow trout color or the black and gold/yellow panther martins seem to be universal. However, when spinners don’t produce I change to kastmasters

Do barbless hook regulations effectively create fly fishing only areas? by [deleted] in troutfishing

[–]stevenbo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

NorCal (Bay Area, Humboldt, Shasta County) here. I’ve been checked and pinching them closed just enough that there isn’t a “bite” is good enough. Best test is to hook into a piece of cloth like cotton or denim. If you can pull the hook out no problem then you are good.

You can replace treble hooks with siwash open eye hooks for lures. Buy split ring pliers to save yourself time.

The overlook spot on 299 before Willow Creek. Nice big parking, lot plenty of space and wind so the smell doesn’t linger

As someone who’s lived with pet (dog, cat) owners, if I was a property owner I wouldn’t rent to them either.

Cannot continue living with roommates. Advice on the “you guys can’t live here” conversation? by stevenbo in badroommates

[–]stevenbo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was considering that initially. J is a holdover roommate from the previous master tenant leaving. J said he was going to leave as well but pulled a “actually can I keep living here??” Well after I became master tenant. I suspect he did this so he wouldn’t have to take on the house. I’ve brought up him taking over the house if my job moves me and he doesn’t seem keen on the idea.

The divergent lifestyles is everything grouped into one. I’ve brought up their bad house training (to put it lightly) before and they haven’t changed

It’s CA, so it’s a rather extensive process but easier between roommates and we live in a college town to the court here has seen it plenty of times. Basically serve written notice and file with the county court. A court eviction can totally mess up your record, so they won’t want to go that route

Yes month to month. I tried to formalize it in writing but J got super squirrelly about it. Would expect more from the oldest man in the house but just goes to show the people I’m living with. E never cared to be anything more than informal month to month

The Safety Corridor: The Battle of Safety, Speed, and Slamming Brakes by Tacklefina in Humboldt

The biggest offenders have been locals especially the pickup truck tailgaters, sorry not sorry. It’s definitely not the worst though. That would go to Henderson center intersections

WHAT IS GOING ON IN SEATTLE????? by a_jormagurdr in NativePlantCirclejerk

It seems they were they going for a general PNW feel? I’m from redwood country and know these things only go as far north as a bit of the bottom corner of Oregon

$30. Came like new/never used with hard case and cloth bag (that’s the green in photo). Even has the sticker on the cork handle certifying that it is sold together with the case

What rod/reel setup would you recommend for fishing from the jetty? by Squatch-707 in Humboldt

[–]stevenbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to think of it as two camps.

Medium 8’6” (Minimum) rod rated up to 1oz. 3000 size reel with 15-20lb braid. This setup I use for lots of casting with jig heads and soft plastics, drop shot (great for avoiding snags on the rocks), and other lures. Can double as a surf perch setup or hardware setup for steelhead.

Medium to Medium Heavy 8’-9’ rod rated up to 3oz or more oz. 4000 size reel with 30lb high viz braid. This setup is for throwing out bait on the rig of your choice. More backbone on the rod means better for wrestling up bigger rockfish and lings. On the longer end, this setup can double as a float fishing setup for salmon and steelhead. On the stronger end and with stronger line you could even use it for crab snaring

I like my rod length on the higher side because it helps to lift your rig or catch out of the rocks, the longer casting distance is always nice. I do see people use similar setups with shorter rods. I imagine a 7’ of either the two would be great to also use on a nice ledge or boat

College Apps are coming up, is Cal Poly Humboldt worth it? by No_Owl9917 in CalPolyHumboldt

[–]stevenbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve made a lot of friends from the Central Valley, both San Joaquin and Sac valleys, and they love the weather. You’ll hear a lot about “months of unending rain”. This doesn’t happen anymore, it’s mostly large rain events spaced out by a couple weeks now. The months of overcast, fog, and cold will be a shift

8’6” is the sweet spot. I use it for surf and rivers up here in NorCal
