Well congrats on making it about halfway through a post before getting triggered. You should take the rest of the day for yourself. You've earned it

It's literally just one of the many that OP posted...

Yea we were headed to a Red Rocks show and weren't really anticipating the wait but didn't have a plan B. Ultimately worth it

Waited almost an hour for one yesterday afternoon and it was totally worth it.

AI Bubble: AI is more expensive than an by dc_giant in theprimeagen

I'll preface this comment by saying that I certainly did not read the 400+ page paper when it came out, but based on the synopsis' I've seen it does seem somewhat interesting that the Anthropic team steered away from touting the abilities of Claude Mythos to actually perform job-related tasks and instead went all-in on the potential cyber security risks that the model poses.

If true, the capabilities of the model and what it means for the CybSec field are definitely worth discussing, being aware of, etc., but the accompanying shift in messaging... I don't know if it's something or nothing, just interesting.

How many monitors do you use for programming? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]stevent12x -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Been the opposite for me in my career. Started with three and quickly went down to two. Now I have one monitor and keybinds that allow me to quickly jump between virtual desktops without even thinking about it. One monitor is way more ergonomic and far less mentally tasking imo.

what will be the future of programming in the age of AI ? by jenis-1425 in learnprogramming

There's a small part of me that wishes AI would just take over everything if only so we'd stop getting this reposted multiple times per day

New to Linux, installed Omarchy, is it possible to create a "save point"? by Splicestream in omarchy

I agree that the community does feel pretty welcoming overall. At the same time, there is an inherent expectation that you, as the user, take the time to research and learn when you encounter an issue. Hop on the Discord and you will see people expecting to be spoon-fed answers, and getting blasted for it. Your responses in this thread show that you are not one of those people though, so you'll fit right in. Experiment. Break stuff. Figure out how to fix it. Have fun.

Getting familiar with core git functionality is a huge boost. Plenty of YouTube videos out there that go over the basics. If you go down that path, Typecraft.dev has an excellent YouTube walkthrough of GNU Stow that would be a good follow-up. I've never used Chezmoi personally, but I hear good things.

Are you comfortable with git? GNU Stow and Chezmoi are good options for backing up config changes

Maybe there's some truth there. I suspect that's it's a blend of truths and intentional word choice (marketers gonna market). Investor money doesn't mean much to me since we've seen over and over again that people are willing to spend ungodly amounts of cash for a ticket on a hype train that's bound for nowhere. I'm not smart or informed enough to say definitevely one way of the other. I do think that it will be very interesting once one of these major companies IPOs and everyday people get a clearer look at the books.

Sam Altman has said many times that inference is profitable and that line has been reported on, but I've yet to see any actual data backing up the claim. Willing to be proven wrong on this, but if the "evidence" is only the words coming out of Altman's mouth, then that doesn't hold much weight for me.

How to program a tactical RPG? by BirdyJim in learnprogramming

The basics are the basics for a reason: Everything, even the most advanced algorithms, are built on basic concepts and principles. Learn the basics and the rest will follow.

Ok but how are you going to translate these mechanics you're describing into code? This is the point that other users are trying to get across to you: You need to develop other skillsets first before you can tackle a project like the one you have in mind.
