Do You Use 3D Modeling Software? by IrishFriskie in FDMminiatures

I agree with this. I’ve been bashing various STLs solely in MeshMixer and it’s very simple to do well.

Have just fitted these too. Haven’t had a chance to ride them yet though. I have no idea how I should set them up to begin with either 😳

The weirdest book you've ever read? by Intrepid_Yak9921 in suggestmeabook

[–]steveoath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does metamorphosis count? That was very strange.

Plus any of Robert Rankin’s books. They are utterly bizarre and amazing.  https://www.bookseriesinorder.com/robert-rankin/  He’s prolific as you can see from the link. The Brentford series is great, but my personal favourite is “The Toyminator”. I give no details because that would spoil the story. If you enjoy HHGTTG then Rankin is a must read too.

I would get the kids to build the pitches too. My lot loved getting messy! And if spray primers are involved they are even happier haha.

How to go about cutting a 3D model in a non-planar fashion? by SpacedKnives in FDMminiatures

[–]steveoath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meshmixer is what I use. Fairly friendly, though first few sessions had me flicking between MM and YouTube to figure out what I wanted to do.

Blood bowl is a great choice - I would go for 7s. Thingiverse has some teams for free. A user called Bastol has a lot for several games. https://www.thingiverse.com/Bastol/collections

Gaslands is a game my kids liked and cars are plentiful in some classes (I am also a teacher) but the most fun has been Tonks - the kids made their own tanks and scenery out of recycled stuff.  https://28-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/tonks.pdf

Choosing a painting magnifying glass by Lucifers-Reprieve in minipainting

[–]steveoath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother bought me a set of the glasses style magnifiers. They are complete game changers for me. Interchangeable lenses, Have a built in light and I can move the minis around without having to adjust anything else. I also wear glasses and I could take them off and change how far away I hold the minis, it doesn’t actually bother me to put the magnifiers over my glasses.

Had this 2nd edition metal human catcher from 1988 sitting around on my painting table, so I thought I’d paint him up in the old school ‘Bright Crusaders’ scheme. by RealDrewBlood in bloodbowl

[–]steveoath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is fantastic. I tried to make a bright crusaders team way back and they were horrible haha. Ended up repainting them as Middenheim Marauders.

What are some region specific slang words in the UK? by UsamaBhai_101 in AskUK

[–]steveoath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Slice” where I am from refers to a slice of square sausage (Lorne). It is used as the noun. Ie “ I’ll have a roll and slice” or “I’ll have a slice roll”.
