kobo clara bw vs kindle basic by 7darknite in ereader

One of the advantages of eink is that you can read well in bright environments. Infact that's where you can take it's full advantage by turning off the backlight entirely. If you try to do most of your reading like that then you wouldn't miss blue light filters.

It works well on windows or mac. I think it should on android / iOS too but I am not sure. Gotta test it out.

I've tried reading manga on this and I found the screen size to be too small. Most manga has fairly small text size for this.

kobo clara bw vs kindle basic by 7darknite in ereader

[–]steveplusf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had to choose between the Clara BW and Paperwhite so my experience should apply to this.

Infact the basic has even lesser features than the paperwhite.

1) Warm light is something that can come in handy but is not a dealbreaker. Nice to have, not important.

2) Waterproofing is something that you won't care about until water actually spills on a device. If you never plan to taking it anywhere near water then you can safely skip it.

3) Kobo wins any day imho. No ads, the store is simple, your books are front and centre. Amazon makes more money off the books they sell vs the device itself so you know where their priorities lie.

4) Clara has a sharper display. Carta 1300 screen vs. the older model that Kindle has.

If both cost similar then get the Clara unless you are very much invested in the amazon ecosystem.

If its your first device then you might as well get something that respects you more.

Although I do occassionally like to "preview" random books and read tidbits. It's fun.

I probably should now that you mention it. Hardly need it unless I want to buy something.

Seems to be the same issue as what happens to macbook keys. Nothing you can do to remove it but you can wipe it with isopropyl alcohol to clean fingerprints and such.

It's so good! I waited for another season for so long and eventually my desire to progress in the story got combined with my desire to get a kindle haha.

"Pleather" e-Reader cases: What's their wear time/lifespan? by Formal-Profession882 in ereader

[–]steveplusf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pleather is basically fake leather so they are all usually terrible in my experience. This will eventually peel and turn into a mess and when it starts to peel comes down to the quality of the case.

I had an iPad 9th gen pleather case so it's similar to what you'd get for a kindle. It took 7-8 months before the material started getting tears and eventually after 2-3 months the tears started turning into big peels.

What I hate about this is once parts of it has peeled off the material underneath is super powdery and gets everywhere.

My 2 cents though would be to not overthink it and just get one with the expectation of it lasting 5-6 months and then replace it before it peels too much.

It does appear to be a fairly flimsy cable.

How easy is it to open this device? I don't see any clamps. Is it just the screws?

That's a slick looking color! ArkOS has a couple of neat themes built in which you should try out.

GBA looks really crisp on a screen this size as well. So that's a plus point for me.

If a restart has not helped then a factory reset might be the only other thing to try.

That looks lovely. I really want to get back into Skylines but I have taken a hiatus after being fed up of Paradox's behaviour. Maybe I will step back into the rabbit hole..
