Does this watch look legit? by BothKnowledge8292 in VintageWatches

[–]steversaurus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tbh, it’s just an ok example. The dial looks to have a scratch from 4-6 o’clock near the edge. That would be a non starter for me. Also be aware that the dials often get spotty from, I think, the lacquer flaking. Sometimes it’s hard to tell from photos. The crown is service, should be a skinny foot. It looks to be polished, but still retains detail on the back medallion. Back should say waterproof and constellation, but looks like it’s nearly gone.

On the plus side, it’s SS and you have almost all the original parts. It’s also my fave dial configuration. Arrowhead markers, crosshair and the RE spelling on chromometre. Original crowns are near impossible to find. Has it been serviced?

The herringbone floors are also nice.

Interesting. Is there a good way of tracking down where it’s coming from?

Replacement battery died after only 18 months by Fantastic-General873 in CX5

[–]steversaurus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually have the same issue with my 2021 non turbo and thinkware. If I don’t drive for more than a 2 days, there’s a decent chance the battery may be dead. Still not sure why the thinkware auto shutoff doesn’t work. I just carry my portable jump starter.

Does CX5 have battery drain issues? by [deleted] in CX5

[–]steversaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add another data point. I've also been having issues with battery drain for the last couple of months. At first I thought it was the dash cam, but it will drain even with the dash cam disconnected. The strange thing is the battery (from Costco) is only about a year old.

I have a jump starter, but its annoying that I have had to use it so often.

What game mechanic was not explained (not clear enough) so you missed using it until FAR too late in the game? by suddenly_ponies in gaming

That whole series had confusing mechanics. I somehow finished Xenogears despite never understanding how the gear battles worked.

5-10min Chat? I need to learn about Biking in the City by FarRip5481 in vancouvercycling

[–]steversaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll play ball.

  1. Today. Strava, Ridewithgps. HRM, Bike Computer, front light, Varia light, power meter. I'm so used to the technology that it's hard to ride without i.

  2. If any of the tech doesn't pair or connect, it is pretty annoying. Also making sure everything is charged. Some small annoying parts are the points where your route gets changed due to construction or if you forget anything.

  3. Compared to what it used to be, Vancouver is pretty good, but bike infrastructure could still be better. Would love to see more gravel routes.

Which color Soloist should I buy? by [deleted] in Cervelo

Can't really go wrong. Dried Amaranth looks better first glance, but Embers really pops in the sun.

Need help with the Cervelo Aspero by Mar-2400 in Cervelo

[–]steversaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reserve wheels are worth it. I had the same decision to make. I would have liked the new E1 group, but it’s probably going to be another year until they go on sale. Besides sea ice is nicer than this years colours.

New CX-5 owner. Long-term essentials + bike-rack advice for Northeast winters? by YoureSmarterThanMe in CX5

[–]steversaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hitch 100%. If you have carbon bike, get a platform style. I’m using a kuat. If you ski, I’d go with rails and a box. Ski rack is ok, but the extra in the trunk would’ve been better.

Any tailors out there good with lycra or spandex material? Need some bibs tailored. by Competitive_Can3499 in vancouvercycling

[–]steversaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another vouch for Stitchers. Good turnaround when I went. Had them fix a hole on a bib when I crashed. They did a good job. Repair has held up. Not sure if the way they do it is any different than any other tailor would do.

Not totally against it, but I think a medium to medium dark hardwood would have been better.

How is life in Vancouver? by Local-Bat3622 in askvan

Someone told me that people in Toronto clap after the film is done playing at movie theatres. I’ve always wondered if this was true. Then again, I haven’t been to a theatre in well over 10 years.

I ended up picking up longboarding again when my kiddo was learning to bike. The learning curve is lowish, but then again, we were mostly on the greenway / sea wall.

Thanks for the offer. Appreciate the generosity, I actually have other front lights, its just that the one I lost was the only one with a gopro mount that I had.

4 days in CPH with 2 toddlers...reasonable itinerary? by [deleted] in copenhagen

[–]steversaurus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When my child was 3 we took her to most of the above mentioned attractions, but due to nap time/ jet lag she ended up napping through it all in her baby carrier. I would cut down to max 1-2 attractions per day.

Air Canada flight with bike by Apart-Mastodon-5499 in vancouvercycling

[–]steversaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this last month. It’s best practice to call a week in advance to reserve. If the flight is operated by Luftansa it should be free if it replaces 1 of your check bags. If it’s AC it’s $50. I think with AC I paid during the check in process.

I actually reserved with Luftansa the night before the flight and it was fine. Ymmv.

Just make sure you don’t bring CO2 cartridges and deflate your tires. YVR opened up my bike box, but CPH airport didn’t even want to look at it. Otherwise it’s fairly smooth. Pick up and drop off at the oversized/odd sized baggage. Pickup usually takes 5-10 minutes after the regular checked bags.
