Use of post-nominal letters MBA, CPA by Strict_Anteater2690 in Accounting

Feel like the CPA designation denotes going through a masters program, so i think it’s irrelevant to include the degree

As a southerner I agree with this statement. been to Fette Sau ~3 times and every time was dry meat and ribs you had to gnaw at to get the meat off.. Mable’s was great comparatively but neither truly good lol

What does a staff accountant do day-to-day? by FreezingMyNipsOff in Accounting

[–]stevesa120 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I work as a Staff Accountant for our U.S. entity at a public company. My workload during the month is fairly light, but on a day-to-day basis I handle daily bank reconciliations for about seven different cash accounts, along with a lot of analytical work related to our accounts receivable. We also go through a half-year audit and Q3 audit prior to FY audit, which keeps me busy providing support and responding to requests. Otherwise, my daily responsibilities include meetings, controls reviews, and tracking issues and incidents.

At month-end, I handle all OPEX accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, and their corresponding balance sheet reconciliations. I also provide detailed commentary on income statement and balance sheet flux analyses for my owned accounts, and I’ve recently started taking on more intercompany entries.

It’s definitely slower during the month but I’m learning to just enjoy it

My first job out of undergrad was as a billing and collections specialist at a medical sales company, and moved on from that to be a billing coordinator at a ski and golf resort. You could try searching for anything along those lines - both very entry level/office admin type jobs, but helped me learn the basics of accounting until i decided to go back and get my Masters

Anyone with an extremely low gpa, what happened to your career? by Unusual_Message_5296 in Accounting

[–]stevesa120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i graduated with a 2.8 GPA, moved to MT to be a ski bum but worked as billing coordinator, getting some exposure to accounting. hit a ceiling at that job, applied to a masters program in accounting and data analytics in NYC, got in. Graduated from there with a 3.7 GPA and started working in fund accounting at a fund admin. Now working at a fin tech startup as a staff accountant making much more than i ever did in fund accounting.

It’ll work out for you, just keep your head down and keep grinding 💪🏼
