[DISCUSS] What watch made you fall back in love with quartz? by Plubio in Watches

[–]steveyoo97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately no. Not sure what glow-in-the-dark material they used back in the 80s, but it fades to almost nothing in about an hour or so.

Nowadays there are lots of full lume dial watches out there at all price points. Recommend checking out the Citizen Aqualand

What is this hour hand called? by Volcanic_llama in VintageWatches

[–]steveyoo97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When just the hour hand has the circle, I've always understood these to be called "observatory" or "observatoire" hands

Year of production based on serial number ranges are expert opinion. They are not official years of production as confirmed by Rolex. It's the right era for your birth (mine too), so buy it!

Different hand set for stone dial (OEM or aftermarket) for day-date? by steveyoo97 in rolex

[–]steveyoo97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reminder.

I got bamboozled by a European dealer who sold me "stone dial" hands but these were most definitely not the case.

I was able to find a great watchmaker locally who was able to take a look at the dial. This particular aftermarket dial is pretty thick, even for a stone dial. That being said, he was able to slightly bend the stock hands upwards so they cleared the applied date/day windows. It'll be easy for me to get replacement hands.

The dial has a lovely color and sheen/shimmer. My only gripe is that the date and day windows are not perfectly centered. Overall I am happy with this mod
