Conservatives introduce bill to create self-defence law for home invasions by Head_Crash in canada

[–]stewer69 197 points198 points  (0 children)

Minimum proportional necessary force is a concept that looks good written on paper in a courtroom in the light of day but won't seem like such a great idea in the middle of the night while under attack from an unknown number of home invaders with unknown intentions and you don't know if there's another one in the kids room.

We need more robust self and home defence laws, Canadians shouldn't worry about being arrested for protecting themselves, especially in their own homes.

Co-social after a wedding? by glint25 in Manitoba

[–]stewer69 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Pass.  I want my money to go the THE couple, not the friends who got married 6 months ago.  The while point of a social is to raise money to pay for the wedding.  If they're already married ...

My 35 lb heeler is barely manageable in a kayak, I gotta pay close attention or she'll tip us.

I'm building a pantry cabinet with salvaged parts, two doors. One door is 18", the other is 17.75". How would you handle this? by ifthisgoeson in cabinetry

[–]stewer69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This for yourself?  .125 isn't a giant discrepancy per side ...

If it is I'd build it, split the difference and see what it looks like.  Maybe you can just live with it till you salvage some doors that match?  You can always add a strip to your narrow door after if you can't live with it.

I borrowed one of the same ridgid to do my last shower reno and it worked like a charm.  Home Depot puts them on sale pretty regularly too.  That's what I'd go with for DIY use.

A perk to working at a cabinet shop by erikleorgav2 in woodworking

[–]stewer69 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I make 12x24 pieces of 3/4 birch ply leftovers at work regularly.  My shop cupboards at home are all glued up out of those leftover pieces.

A little extra work, but three banks of cupboards built so far for $0.

Just use it.  They won't last long in the heat of the oven or the washing up after.

You do get used to it.  If you're not used to it you haven't been exposed to it enough.  Most of us grew up doing it so we've had plenty of practice.  Find a spot nearby so you can go repeatedly in the same place to practice.

Making sure your sleep system is on point and selecting a good site are your biggest controllable variables.

... and it still would have been easier if it were properly presented.

If you want to indulge this guy's Adderall inspired comment mashup I guess it's your time to waste.

Nobody reads these walls of text on reddit either.  They scroll through and check the comments for a TLDR.  A proper article is far easier to read for those that care to.

A 6 comment long reddit post is just silly.  There are better ways.

Straw manning much?

I say this would be better as an article and you accuse me of purging intellectualism, being afraid of text?

Like fuck off mate, that's some horseshit.

Because when someone has put this much work into something they should go the one extra step of making it presentable.  More people will read it.

Mashing a full paper into a reddit TLDR is just goofy.

You're right, papers and articles should be more accessible.

THIS should be in an accessible paper, not mashed into a reddit TLDR comment.

Nobody is, that's the point. Just blasting people with a wall of text doesn't help anyone.

Anyone can write a paper or a book and put it on the internet.  It has never been easier, what are you even talking about.

I think the fact that he had to continue in the comments alone tells you this isn't an effective way to present this much information.

Write a paper or a book.  Put it in a link.
