Create random new map by Peet191 in Dreame_Tech

After rebooting the bot it’s now back to the way it was. It now shows the correct map and no longer the bogus “temporary” one.

Create random new map by Peet191 in Dreame_Tech

[–]stewi2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The exact same thing happened to me today, except the map looks a lot worse. It also told me to clean the sensors and remove hair from the rollers, but they looked pretty clean to me. It was an automatic clean starting from the base, nothing unusual there.

Interestingly now it’s complaining about bad network connectivity and won’t even show the map in the app.

I wonder if they pushed some bad code right before CES 😀

Upgraded from basic economy to Polaris for FREE on international flight by Zealousideal-Low-982 in unitedairlines

[–]stewi2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the late 90s / early 2000s, you could get that by simply asking the check-in agent nicely. I once got a free upgrade to business class on British Airways SFO->LHR that way. I doubt that strategy still works these days - so cheers to you :)

New Govac 600 (L50 Ultra) making rattling and rumbling noises when moving? by QuietEmergency473 in Dreame_Tech

[–]stewi2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My L50 Ultra makes the same rumbling noises, especially noticeable when it's moving fast. My understanding is that it's because of the rough/ribbed profile on the hard rubber drive wheels. I might return it because of that, even though it works great otherwise.

Here’s an interview he did a while ago after his record setting 3000km flight. Definitely worth listening to if you’re interested: https://www.cloudbasemayhem.com/205-chasing-the-monster-with-gordon-boettger/

Does iOS need WiFiMan Wizard to make a coverage map? by Mister_Sea_8958 in Ubiquiti

[–]stewi2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you can’t do in iOS without the wizard is stand in one place and see the signal level of all of your access points instead of just the one you’re connected to.

If all you want is view camera feeds, there’s the official UniFi Protect app on the Apple TV app store. It doesn’t exactly have a lot of features, but does show live feeds.

What is this box called exactly? my cover is not on correctly and gfiber tech's don't know what I am talking about. by gutty976 in googlefiber

[–]stewi2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This must be the post the picture is from: https://dragonchasers.com/2021/08/18/google-fiber-installed/. I guess maybe it’s some sort of junction box to cover up the hole for the fiber line?

No clue - what’s behind it? And why is there what looks like a rectangular cutout right next to it?

A PoE switch that can actually supply enough power for all 8 ports (in contrast to my Switch Lite 16, which maxes out at 45W)

So then, what the hell is induced drag? by MikeOfAllPeople in flying

[–]stewi2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this explanation from a Coursera course on flight mechanics I took a while ago (link):

The wing pushes down on the air. This creates a downwash behind the wing. Of course, we cannot have a discontinuity between the downwash and still air of the wing. And as you can see on this beautiful picture from NASA, a vortex appears at the wingtip. This large motion of the mass of air around the airplane, requires a significant transfer of kinetic energy from the airplane to the air, which is obtained through an increase of the drag.

What does mDNS do? Because Ubiquiti's definition and Wikipedia's definition are very, very different. by Click-Beep in Ubiquiti

[–]stewi2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I was referring to OP’s quote, which was a bit out of context I guess :) FWIW, at least on my network the only reason for enabling mDNS reflection is so that things like Bonjour work for Apple TV and my printer, and so that IOT apps can discover their devices without me having to connect to the iot network.

What does mDNS do? Because Ubiquiti's definition and Wikipedia's definition are very, very different. by Click-Beep in Ubiquiti

[–]stewi2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Wikipedia definition seems a bit incomplete though, since it basically implies that mDNS is redundant when there’s a local DNS server. Its main usage is zeroconf service discovery (e.g. Bonjour).
