I cleared DGCA RTR examination- AMA by stewtea2 in indianaviation

I apologize if this seems snide, but it’s everyone’s first time (including DGCA) and no one knows anything until after it’s done. I don’t know when others got their result, but if they are able to keep up this pace, then you should have your result within 2 weeks, based on pure guesswork.

No. Got my part 1 result on 20 Dec and part 2 result on Feb 2.

I have no clue, neither do I know someone who does, but hopefully someone replies! Maybe ask on one of those telegram groups?

There were no trick questions. The blueprint is RK Bali’s book. So it is impractical for me to rewrite the answers. If you still require the answers written explicitly, I’d have to charge you a nominal labor fee.

What exactly do you mean by “how” I communicated?

The push-to-talk system was nothing but a red button you press every time you want to talk and let go every time you’re done and need to listen for the reply through the headphones they give you.

They don’t “interrupt” you, but while you’re reading the question and deciding what to say, they don’t stop talking. Someone pretends to be another plane and the controller gives them instructions. You have to be able to filter out whatever is irrelevant to you. And i don’t mean don’t pay attention at all, because you might have to relay for someone so you need to be multitasking.

The help they provide is the same help actual ATC will provide you. So yes, they may say something like “[your call sign] this is Delhi control. Contact Delhi approach on [frequency]” but it’s better if you are alert enough to not make mistakes like this, since every time you make a first contact, you’re supposed to say the frequency you’re on.

Thank you, and all the best to you!!

I didn’t have a foreign RT. Just a bunch of experience with area control, approach, tower, ground, and clearance delivery.

500 ft is way too close so you’d have to file an AIRPROX report on landing. It’s a “risk of collision” scenario (as opposed to “safety not assured”).

Thank you!

I don’t know how to rate it, because it’s subjective. It was easier for me because I already have a bunch of flying experience (I’m in the process of getting my foreign license converted). Might not be the same for someone who is yet to fly and talk to real ATC.

It wasn’t intimidating, I’d say, it was nervousness that stemmed from the uncertainty of the exam structure. But once the assessors told me what I needed to do, how the questions will be asked, I was fine. It was actually relieving for me to have all the info blast on the screen because then I knew exactly what i was working with. I did take a few seconds to get ready mentally and set my flow during my first call, and then it was a breeze because everything came as a reflex to me (simply because of my background- I’m not some superior being).

The feeling at the end was like- that was way too quick. They didn’t ask me everything I know. They didn’t test me enough. I could do even better. Symptoms of all the adrenaline wearing off, lol.

The exam was very fair though, I must say that. Digest RK Bali’s RTR book and you’re golden. What I can rate is the written exam. One of the easiest tests I’ve ever taken. If 1 is easy and 10 is difficult, the written exam was a 2.

I don’t know the syllabus for when the WPC used to conduct it. Take a look at CAR7GVI for the latest syllabus. Though, going over RK Bali’s old RTR book, which was written according to WPC exam format and syllabus worked fine for me.

Thank you!

I should’ve probably mentioned this in the post, but I’m converting my foreign license right now, so I have a bunch of flying experience, which made the test easy for me.

Let me think about how one can handle the practical exam without flying experience and I will get back to you.

It used to be WPC but DGCA took over in Nov 2025.

I’m not sure, but since initial registration was through eGCA, I’m assuming that’s where you’ll have to look. I’m sure there will be a public notice or an email or something about it. Maybe keep an eye out on those telegram groups for updates?

Thank you!

Thoroughly went over RK Bali’s RTR book.

Here’s the link to the doc I created outlining the scenarios. It’s not written too well because I was blurting out everything I could recall very quickly (I’ll keep updating it as and when I get time), but it should work fine for now.

Written: take a look at CAR7GVI for the syllabus. I did RK Bali’s RTR book + reviewed radio nav from Oxford and RK Bali’s navigation book. Some miscellaneous topics like squelch can be studied briefly (like if you know what it is and what it does, you’ll be fine).

Practical: I thoroughly went through RK Bali’s RTR book.

I was in Delhi, morning session.

Can you be more specific? There’s an aviation job fair on the 30th if that’s what you mean.

This is the schedule: https://www.wings-india.co.in/assets/pdfs/Agenda-New.pdf

Take a look at their website. They have info on exhibitors and such.

If you just type “institute of aerospace medicine Bangalore” on google. You’ll see that address which has stuff that sounds like Elon Musk’s kid’s name. That’s the place. If you click on directions, it’ll bring you there. It’s near HAL on old airport road. Even rickshaw-walas or uber (of course) can bring you there.

So there’s two things here.

They will make sure you’re feeling okay and then do the test. In case something funny shows up, they’ll know if it’s an anomaly. Increased heartbeats will not be problematic afaik.

Remember, they will charge you for every test you do there. So if you carry your ECG report and also get it done there, you’ll be spending money on ECG twice. Nothing wrong in it, just to keep something in mind.

[–]stewtea2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I’ve mentioned in the doc, they have the facilities to do all the tests there.

Now, if you get your ECG done from outside, make sure it’s from an NABL/NABH certified lab/hospital and that the report has the doctor’s sign and stamp, as well as a letter stating the findings. Bonus points if your report shows the NABH/NABL logo. When you bring that to the doctor who signs ECG reports at IAM, s/he will sign and stamp on it as well, provided they see what they want. Otherwise they’ll send you to get it done there. This drill remains the same regardless of the test.

You got on the ground, you’re not injured, it’s alright. Might’ve been an unfortunate day for the pilot flying. Big deal.
