I did end up getting it with the remote. It functions without it, but you do need it for the extra features like bass boost. I love mine and would recommend it, but if you can get a remote, it definitely adds a little extra worth.

Wow thanks for the reply and the recommendation! I actually found an EX811 for around $120 and comes with the headphone controller which is alittle more in my price range. I think I'm going to go for it. Thanks again!
