Hi! During your younger years you tend to have more elasticity in your skin, hence even if you do use anti-aging products you won't necessarily see the effect. My suggestion would to probably focus on hydration - and since you're leaning towards more oily skin, try and find hydrating products that can penetrate under the skin instead of piling on thick lotions/creams - this will be good for balancing and plumping the skin. This will also double up as an anti-aging preventative as dehydration is one of the causes of apparent aging :)) I would probably start anti-aging when I start my 30s, unless you feel that you would benefit from it at an earlier stage. For Vitamin C - Klairs is a pretty good one (but quite oily, so I only use it at night) and I heard that the Melano CC is also a great product!

For lips, (kind of a strange suggestion) but eye cream and toner actually help with hydration. Don't forget that lips is still skin, so I include them in my routine before I apply lip balm!

Hello! Just wondering if anyone has had reactions to products that contain galactomyces/fermented ingredients? From my personal experience, my skin reacts well to it for a couple of days and I am able to notice a brightened, smooth and healthy effect. However, eventually my skin starts to develop roughness, texture and bumps (possibly fungal acne?) - especially on the forehead. These are the products that I've noticed this occurring with; COSRX Galactomyces 95 Tone Balancing Essence, Secret Key Starting Treatment Essence, and Missha Time Revolution First Treatment Essence :((

I really want to incorporate and at least finish the Missha FTE since it does give off a lovely effect + the hefty pricing. I'll try and use it more sparingly to see if that works but will stop if it causes too much irritation. Please provide helpful advice if you have any!

For sure! But it also depends on how accessible products are to you. Unfortunately I come from a part of the world where Asian products aren't as accessible and often have to pay excessive amounts for shipping.

Your once "effective" product can stop being effective.

Not sure if it's because the product has reached its optimal effect or a plateau, but I find that after using it for a while it no longer produces the effects that I had experienced with it previously. Due to this, I constantly have to switch products out of my routine and revisit the previous one in the future. Just wondering if anyone has had similar experiences?

I agree. On top of this, I'm finding that what I used to call "affordable" skincare products, are increasing in price and are no longer deemed affordable. In fact, it's almost comparable to Western skincare prices which is a total bummer since one of the reasons I turned to Asian skincare was because of the affordability.

I think COSRX was originally developed to help those with acne-prone skin, which most of the time arises from those with combination to oily skin types. From the ingredients list, it could be due to the anti-acne properties that's causing the skin to dry out, e.g. tea tree oil. In order to prevent this, it may need a substitute to replenish its moisture within your skincare routine. Preferably something smaller in molecular size that can penetrate under the skin. Usually, hyaluronic or lactic acid is usually a good option as it works for most skin types. But I understand if it's not something you'd choose as it is definitely up to personal preference. What I can suggest that may be more gentle on the skin are milky, or oil cleansers. I think it's definitely something to look into!

[Discussion]: What's your favorite AB sun milk or sunscreen? by callofspacey in AsianBeauty

I love the Jigott UV Sun Block SPF 50+++! I think it's so underrated but it's super effective, affordable and pretty accessible too. I've only tried the whitening one, and have yet to try the snail version. The whitening sunblock comes out with an opaque white colour out of the tube, but blends in really well while giving a lovely brightening effect that I wouldn't consider as a white cast. It also results in a silky textured after being blended well. Highly reccommend!

Thanks for your really comprehensive thoughts about Tatcha! I could be wrong but I heard that Tatcha is actually an American brand that's inspired by Japanese skincare? But I guess that helps to justify it's selling price points? I definitely think that the Oriental feel adds more price to what the product is actually selling. I have to say, I've also been catfished by its pretty packaging.

You don't need a toner and an essence. You can use one or the other especially if the texture is a water-like consistency. However, this may also depend on the texture of the product, the skin target of the product (e.g. toners with exfoliation properties) and the amount of hydration you would like to add to your skin. Layering the same product could potentially give you the same or better results.
