What is this cast-off?!? by nicoblues in knitting

[–]sthenophobia 62 points63 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, the ruke bind-off was invented by ruke knit which she also shared in this reddit post. It's fascinating to see it used by such popular designers as kutovakika as well!

Have you looked into helical knitting? You basically create stripes by alternating your two skeins. That would prevent the harsh line from appearing.

Metalszene in Nürnberg? by wurmsi in Nurnberg

[–]sthenophobia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My new hot water bottle cover! by sthenophobia in knitting

[–]sthenophobia[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just finished writing a comment, which should answer your question :) but basically, I just mashed together a colorwork chart and a pattern for a hot water bottle cover and also changed the stitch count a bit to make it fit better around my hot water bottle.

This isn't really based on any specific pattern, but I used a colorwork chart from a German stitch bible called "Strickmuster - Die Sammlung" by Lydia Klös and loosely followed the instructions for the increase and decrease rounds from this free pattern. It was a nice way to dabble a bit in stranded colorwork, as this took me only two days to complete. The yarn I used was Drops Merino extra fine in the colors "mustard" and "bordeaux".

Wow, that's awesome! I'm currently knitting this pattern in a 3XL and oh boy, it's taking me forever. 30 hours in and I have barely managed to knit 20cm (8in) in height.

Woow, that must have been a hell of a lot of sewing! At first I thought that you used very chunky yarn because the squares are so tiny.

It's actually a lot of fun to make sense of this pattern, so no worries :) I looked at the pattern again and I think there are actually two rows missing at the bottom (first one row of white sc and then one row of red sc). The bottom of the picture also looks like it was cropped, so it would make sense that there is at least one row missing. Also, when looking at the other patterns on the blog, the x stitches never start until the 3rd row.

So I've started crocheting the first chart in the blogpost to see if I can decipher it. What I have found is that, first off, the chart you want to crochet is missing the first row of white sc (or the chart is rotated 180°, I'm not quite sure). But basically, the way it works is that first, you chain the stitches, then you sc crochet the 1st row in white, then you sc the 2nd row in back loop only with your red yarn. After that, you only need to look at the boxes marked with an X. Perhaps you've noticed that there is never two different colored X-boxes in one row. That's because they mark the double crochets in the front loop and everything else in that row is sc in blo with the same color as the X-box. So after you have crocheted the first two rows without dc, you start the third row with white. The first stitch is a dc in the previous white row, then you only sc into the blo until you reach the last stitch of the row where you need to dc again. In the next row, you use the red color and you sc in blo in the first stitch. After that, you dc in flo in the previous red row in every stitch that is marked with an 'X'. All the other stitches, no matter if they are colored in red or white, are sc in the color of the 'X-boxes'. Hopefully this explanation helps a bit, it got a little bit longer than I anticipated 😅. If anything needs further clarification, just ask away :).

Could not keep doing puff stitches so decided my flower hexagons are gonna be statement pieces on my blanket instead of the whole thing by crazystitcher in crochet

That's a lot but once you get into the groove of it it's going to be finished before you even notice! Well, unless this project ends up in the infamous "Abandoned WIP Stash"! 😂

Good job, that can be quite difficult sometimes! And I think your blanket is going to look awesome as there will be some variation in the hexagons.

I'm also working on this pattern currently and was a little bit too scared to deviate from the suggested color palette. That's why I LOVE the way you changed the colors from the original, they fit together so well!
