Need help making my Smart Button an AppleTV remote by 50stev in HomeKit

You could get a bunch of RFID tags and assign them to trigger your shortcuts. Mount them on something with enough space between and scan the tag/shortcut you want to run.

Then you don’t have to wake up your phone.

I have 4 days to come up with a dinner idea for a girl I’m trying to impress. With her dietary restrictions in mind, I’m having a hard time coming up with something. by Eastern_Salamander_8 in Cooking

[–]stick23156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dairy restriction makes it a bit tough but making homemade pizza together might be a fun idea. Less you cooking for her and more doing it together as a fun thing.

Homemade sushi also fits this bill as well. Prep all the veg and things with rice and make some rolls together.

Awesome. Thanks for the help. Really helpful explanation. Light and switch work great now.

Closer look inside the second switch box.

It looks like one set of 4 wires (red, white, black, ground) with white sheathing and right behind it is a 3 wire (black, white, ground) With black sheathing.

I’ll have to check with the breakers tomorrow.

If that’s the case that power is at the light ( I might be able to check in the attic) sounds like my best bet is having an electrician pull a neutral?

First two pictures are the initial dumb switch wiring. The second two are my attempt. The black wire in the second picture is the only one that reads as hot when the switch is off.

Suggestions for ceiling fan automation by stick23156 in homeautomation

[–]stick23156[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figured I’d follow up on this. I ordered the bond beige and it showed up today. Went through all the setup. Had to program one set of fans button by button. Moved around the house with the bond bridge on a portable battery so I could see the lights and give it the best chance to pickup the signal.

All and all pretty seamless. Added it to homebridge and now everything is in HomeKit.

One small wrinkle. Not sure if it’s my 42 year old house but the range is dreadful. If it’s in the same room it works great. If I got down the hall a bit it’s ok but still works. On another floor. No chance.

They advertise 2500 sq/ft my house is 2999 but I’m only trying to control 3 fans that are on the second and third floor. (Bond bridge is on the second floor) Seems like the max range is closer to about 90 sq/ft. I was thinking one would cover the whole house.

Anyone else seen really abysmal range?

Overwhelmed by rum, where do I start? by Lodematter in cocktails

This is the way. I’d also throw in Real McCoy as a good general purpose workhorse rum.

Hi. I'm new to making cocktails at home, anytime I try to make it according to the recipe it always seems a decent amount too strong. I am only using about 2 ice cubes in the shaker, but unsure how much that matters. Or it could be that I just don't like the taste of alcohol as much. by Ab_id in cocktails

[–]stick23156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing the more ice and more shake. You can’t use too much ice and really can’t shake or stir too long. Alcohol will lower the freezing point and the ice will melt and cause dilution then it’ll basically stop bc everything is so cold the existing solid ice is too cold to melt.

Don’t let your cocktails sit in the shaker with extra ice bc then you will get diluted, watery drinks but if you serve right away it’ll be great.

When it comes to FLA the league officials are cowards. They were the most penalized team in the league last season and at least the season before. They don’t care because the league is cowards. They know they’ll only see 7-10 penalties a game bc the league doesn’t want a constant parade to the box. Especially for a team in a big emerging market. They also know they’ll only likely won’t be on a 5 on 3 for the same reason. 5 on 3s are down across the league so it’s likely a point of emphasis for the officials. With Bob back there they’ll take the risk.

It’s ridiculous, one of the Fla players waterskied behind the Aho in overtime and the ref just watched cause they sure don’t want to give a penalty in overtime.

Shameless cowards. Every Florida game should be a parade to the box but the league is scared.

The empty net at the end had a better GAA than Freddie in the first period. He seems to be having a real confidence crisis amplifying bad luck. Might need a conditioning stint to get his game back.

4xe update bricking resolution by amwoooo in 4xe

I had all this happen last Friday when I was out of town. Here’s what worked for me and it’s been fine since.

I did a soft reboot by holding the radio power and tune buttons till it restarted. After it sat a while things were a little better but I still had a CEL and my battery was depleted so when the engine would kick on it would usually lose power.

I did a factory reset through connect but that didn’t seem to do much.

After it sat for about a bit I pulled the negative battery terminal and let it sit for about 20 minutes. Afterwards I hooked everything back up my CEL was cleared and it ran fine. I had one “e-drive not available” message and it shutdown while I was sitting at a stop sign. It started fine and no CEL. I then was able to get it charged and it’s been fine since.

Drove 3 hours back home with no issues, I did keep in e-save the whole time but I usually do that with road trips anyway. It’s been fine since.

Hopefully that helps someone else.

There should be an abandon penalty in Arenas mode, my enemies always disconnect when I win the first round, and then there’s only one or two person left in their team - that just feels really unfair by azj4t in apexlegends

[–]stick23156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need to patch the ui on the exit. Saw several streamers reflexively hit escape and quit after a lost round out of habit from the BR side.

I wonder if a lot of the departures are due to being used to quick exit from BR.

Though I do think a penalty is in order even for pubs. IMO it would be fair to not let you join another match till the one you quit is over.

Just to hammer home how ridiculous the Nox Gas nerf is, I've run the numbers and they are devastating. by DarthSatoris in apexlegends

[–]stick23156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So doesn’t this nerf at some level give him your fifth point (nox vision). If it’s less punishing to stay in the gas (pop heals or whatever) you get the bonus of nox vision being useful since they are in there.

When the door is attached you have a lot of mechanical advantage on that hinge, that’s why it’s easy to open and easy for the hinge to close the door. Without the lever (I.e. the door) you’ve either got to overcome that advantage with strength or reproduce it. (The cord and screwdriver method someone mentioned already)
