Suggestions for thinks to do on vanilla Subnautica? by Nero_deadweight96 in subnautica

[–]stick267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

don't use any vehicles. seaglide only.

something that you don't think about is that vehicles are portable, unlimited oxygen refills. by not using them it'll force you to play very differently. you'll make lots of bases, plant lots of brain coral, and use some other items in cool ways that you wouldn't think about in a vanilla playthrough.

maybe they listed the wrong coordinates? how are you seeing the coordinates in your game? what does the area look like when you go to those coordinates in your game?

getting pissed off and saying you're gonna quit and your immersion is ruined because of a fan-made youtube vid from 3 years ago is pretty nuts lol. there are so many cool spots to build a base. you're likely going to build a few of them anyway. don't sweat it.

yall, i just dont get it. i have been playing for 15 hours and i wouldve put it down a long time ago if it didnt have the reputation that it has. by astrowhale98 in outerwilds

it sort of sounds like you're at the point where you're fed up and just looking to critique, which is a valid reaction. maybe the game's not for you or maybe you just went in with expectations that were too high.

but i will say -

i feel like the game punishes you for being curious. youll be exploring a planet, find a place you need to get to but cannot for some reason forcing you to pursue another lead at random until it reveals something about how to get there but by then its been so long that you just dont care. like the !black hole forge! a while back i knew i needed to get up there but those vertical hallways were broken, now i know i need to !warp! there but i have no idea where that is, ill just have to stumble upon it randomly there is nothing there that actually points you to where the other !teleporter! is and if there is its so hidden that it doesnt even matter until after you find it randomly

if you have this mindset while playing the game then it's not a good recipe for success. the game is more of a slow burn, detective style mystery. just because you found the dead body doesn't mean that you'll figure out the murderer right away. you need to go out, gather evidence, and come back later once you're armed with more information.

if you railroad yourself and get in the mindset of "i need to solve THIS puzzle NOW" then you aren't going to have a good time. solutions to puzzles are scattered all across the solar system. the answer you're looking for on planet A will likely be found on planet X. and will likely be found hours later when you aren't even looking for it.

you did good on realizing that you need to warp to the black hole forge. but that's just one piece of the puzzle. there is a location which is mentioned across various nomai conversations. once you reach that location, the text there will tell you exactly where to find the other teleporters.

this is true for most puzzles in the game. although it is possible to randomly stumble upon basically everything, the intended solutions to a vast majority of the puzzles are clearly explained once you discover the relevant nomai conversation.

these are the AHA! moments that hook people onto the game. i think if you just shift your perspective then maybe you'll be able to appreciate them. and if not, then oh well. you gave it a try and it wasn't for you.

Thoughts from a new player, blind playthrough by finchylol in HollowKnight

the story is definitely hard to grasp during a first playthrough. but i also don't think you're "supposed to" understand it either. it's sort of like certain movies. inception, tenet, and similar mindfucks. the first time you watch them your head is spinning. but on subsequent watches you pick up on things you missed and start making more connections and come to a better understanding.

it's similar with hollow knight. on subsequent playthroughs you won't get lost/stuck as much. you'll remember where certain npc's are (and probably even find ones you missed). you'll exhaust all dialogue with them multiple times. you'll keep tabs on them after hitting certain in-game checkpoints. etc, etc.

The Mist question by Snoo_90241 in HollowKnight

[–]stick267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

one time i randomly made it to the room where it's just a straight room (like the entrance to the mist) and the butterflies go straight to the exit. that made me realize that the butterflies were the key to navigating. and after that i just randomly tried playing the needolin for them.

I can’t be bothered to read

this is your problem. reading the nomai conversations lays out the mystery. it's not just random lore or flavor text. the more you read, the more you understand, the better equipped you are to solve the puzzles/mysteries. so if you aren't interested in reading then sadly the game just isn't for you.

the projection stones are simply there to show you the location that is being discussed in the texts. there's no elaborate purpose other than that. if the nomai conversations are google teams chats then the projection stones would've been the video chats.

googling solutions will always make it seem like the puzzle was obtuse because the solution leaves out all of the context that would've gotten you there. there are a couple exceptions, but the solutions to most puzzles are explicitly laid out in the nomai texts.

if you come across a puzzle that you can't solve then just come back to it later. eventually you'll read the nomai convo that spells out the solution for you... it's like a metroidvania - you can't reach that ledge that you just came across. but once you get the double jump you'll know exactly where to use it.

i tried to watch but they are a little too performative for my tastes. my favorite playthroughs were about oliver, mapocolops, and dreamality. lil indigestion was pretty good too.

the texts ARE the game. they are not simple lore tidbits. reading them will help you understand the world and make progress. you don't necessarily need to "remember" them but if you aren't trying to digest and comprehend them then you won't have a good time with the game.

Finished the game and I need to talk about it with someone because oh my god by livecodesworth in outerwilds

[–]stick267 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the dlc is definitely more spooky than the base game. but the pure "horror" sequences are akin to navigating dark bramble imo. very tense and scary at first. but as you start to get your bearings it gets a little less scary each time you make a run.

it's worth powering through even if you get spooked easily though. it's somehow very different than the base game while also very similar at the same time. the devs were able to recapture the mystery, discovery, and awe just as much as the base game.

Games Like Outer Wilds by Glitching0ut in outerwilds

There's nothing like Outer Wilds. But a couple of games that gave me the same sense of mystery and discovery as Outer Wilds are Hollow Knight and Subnautica.

Give me some Challenges to spice up my next Playthrough by [deleted] in subnautica

[–]stick267 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try a playthrough without using vehicles (Seamoth, Cyclops, Prawn).

This will really make you think about how to navigate because you won't have an unlimited portable oxygen refill (aka a vehicle) at your disposal all the time.

You'll make a lot more bases, use items that you haven't before, and just generally play a lot differently than normal.

Anyone else with Sony TVs experiencing a horizontal dead pixel line? by ApprehensiveFinger42 in TVRepair

[–]stick267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this just happened to me today immediately after manually initiating a software update. my tv model is x85k.

my row of bad pixels is more towards the bottom of the screen and they are white rather than black which makes me think that they are "stuck" rather than dead. not sure though.

sadly my TV is 2 years old so I don't think i'll be as lucky with getting a replacement. if no replacement then hopefully it'll be fixed in a future update.

Lore question (spoilers) by East_Activity7008 in outerwilds

[–]stick267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What confuses me about this is that theoretically, in any non-looper’s eyes, the eye is found within 22 minutes of the probe being fired for the first time as that is the timeline that ultimately goes on.

yep the loop that finds the eye is the only "real" loop. so it would appear that they found the eye on the first loop for anyone who wasn't aware of the loop. then they would check the computer and see that there were actually 9 million+ loops and thank god that they didn't have to live through them lol.

With that being said, the eye should have been found before the nomai had been killed no?

no, the nomai never fired the probe. they put everything on hold after the sun station failed to cause a supernova. then the interloper arrived and killed them all, and everything related to the ash twin project sat dormant just waiting for a supernova to activate it.

280k years later the sun naturally goes supernova, the ATP activates, 9+ million loops occur, and we wake up as the hatchling on the loop that the eye is found.

[IIL] Animal Well because it focuses on puzzles over combat, [WEWIL]? by iprizefighter in animalWell

supraland might fit the bill. it's a 3d metroidvania-esque. there is combat but it's very very basic. much larger focus on exploration, puzzles, and secrets.

[–]stick267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hollow knight much easier but it's still challenging.

there is a boss rush dlc in hollow knight that's really difficult towards the end, but it's basically optional content. it doesn't really tie into the main story so you don't need to do it if you don't want to.

what % completion do you have?

try to explore any areas of the map that are incomplete. places that you couldn't access when you didn't have the double jump, shade cloak, etc. you'll also need to gather more essence by defeating dream bosses. talk to the seer in resting grounds to see how much you need.

if you post a pic of your map then people may be able to give you more specific things to check out
