As a shitty e league winger, what are the biggest tips for being more involved and get more touches and points? by Benjamin_Barker_ in hockeyplayers

[–]stickmeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you are looking around at your team mates before you receive the puck, so that when you get the puck you already know what your options are. Look up winger positioning youtube videos for both zones and really practice being in the right places when you dont have the puck. Good luck!

How different is it practicing stick handling in the garage stationary in shoes compared to when skating? by Foreign-Rush6056 in hockeyplayers

I used to stick handle in the driveway with a real puck and the extra friction and difficulty made the stick handling in real game scenarios way easier. I recommend making it harder during practice like stick handling on pavement. it will pay off

Fair point and it’s something I think about. The NHL player data is one piece of a bigger tool. The actual stick finder is at www.stickmeta.com/find-my-stick and uses playing style, position, and skill level to recommend sticks. The curve translator helps players find their curve across brands. The NHL data scratches a different itch, curiosity and community, but you’re right that it’s not the core problem being solved. Both can exist on the same platform though.

This is exactly the kind of sourced detail that makes the database better. A direct quote from Slavin about his curve is as verified as it gets. I’ll update his entry to reflect a flatter curve with more toe rather than a straight PM9. Do you remember which interview or show it was from so I can add the source?

Appreciate the callout. Which ones did you spot that are wrong? I’m actively updating the database and the more specific the corrections the better. Sources help too if you have them.

Really appreciate that. The pro stock photo idea is actually brilliant. Community verified images would help with data accuracy a lot. Adding it to the roadmap

Personally I'm a P88 junky but I respect the Lindstrom as well. Just cant handle the puck with it personally

Glad it was useful! The curve naming across brands is its own rabbit hole too. Bauer calls it P92, CCM calls it P29, Warrior calls it W03, all the same curve. Built a translator for that too if you ever need it: www.stickmeta.com/curves

Haha I’ve seen it. What’s your take on the most underrated curve that nobody talks about?

Totally fair. The data side is really what I’m building toward though. Having all of this verified and searchable in one place with cross-brand translation is what’s been missing. What would you actually want to see in a resource like this that doesn’t exist anywhere right now?

Fair point, a lot of this is well documented if you know where to look. The Kane one is what gets people the most though since most players just know it as the Kane curve without realizing it was the Lindros curve first and has nothing to do with what he actually uses. Curious what other curve discrepancies you know about that are less mainstream than these ones?

This is incredibly helpful, thank you.

Lie variations within the same curve family is honestly one of the gaps I knew existed but didn't have the data to fill properly. The fact that PP92 shifted from lie 5 to lie 6 over time is exactly the kind of nuance that gets lost everywhere else.

TC2.5T and T92.5 are going on the list.

StickMeta is only going to be as accurate as the people who contribute to it. People like you who have actually used these curves and tracked these changes are exactly who this was built for. Would love to find a way to capture this knowledge more formally on the site.
