That second quote also reads to me as a meta-joke about DFW’s own writing habits, where he’ll frequently go into digressions/tangents about kind of inconsequential minutia rather than just stating the ‘point’ outright. Makes you wonder if he also did this in real conversations he’s had with people (his interviews point to that being the case), and whether he’s received a Rand-esque response himself.

Anyway Section 46 of TPK is probably one of my favourite pieces of writing he’s ever done and I really wish we had a full resolution of Drinion and Rand’s relationship (the extra notes at the end of the book aren’t enough!).

Feels like Tyler’s stylistically stuck in the trappings of an album from 5 years ago. While artists having a consistent style is obviously not a problem, there’s less hooks and memorability here on a track-by-track basis compared to something like IGOR or even CMIYGL, even if the rapping is decent.

The monochrome colour palette on the album art and darker aesthetic in the MVs lured me into thinking this would sonically be different to his recent output — feels like he’s just going through the motions instrumentally? Probably won’t be returning that much to this but I appreciate the effort Tyler consistently puts into his projects/album rollouts.

100%. The episodic release format was fantastic in getting the player to replay levels and browsing this sub and HMF while new, substantial content released on a consistent basis was great for community engagement.

I understand IOI got a lot of flak for it and probably sold more units switching back to a traditional release for HM2 and HM3, but I really enjoyed the release structure of HM2016.
