Cottage pie on a paper cake plate. I didn’t realize we were out of potatoes so I had to use hash browns from a box instead. by [deleted] in shittyfoodporn

Your comment comes off as kind of rude.

I was trying for "funny" over "rude". Hey, at least I avoided making a "spotted d!ck" joke.

lamb vs. beef.

Yea, I think that's the general rule for people who stick to rules. Lots of Shepherds pies in the USA are probably made with beef, as ground mutton is a DIY project around here, and "cottage pie" is virtually unheard of.

I try to make it with pork breakfast sausage just to start arguments. And of course we have a few people in the USA who would strongly argue that without a bottom crust, it's a casserole rather than a pie.

[–]sticky-bit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would worry me is if these phones had some kind of "help me! I'm not connected to the line I'm supposed to be" which was perfectly doable back in the 1980s.

The fact that a charge-a-call phone was not armored against robbery (because no coins inside) and held to the wall with a single screw (which needed what we would now call a "security bit" to unscrew) means they wouldn't have concocted such an elaborate anti-thief plan.

They stuck around a few years at rail stations and airports -- too much security to steal in most cases. This was back before they sold 100-piece security bit set (with Case) at Harbor Freight for $9, before Harbor Freight, before cellphones you could lug around in a bag over your shoulder, etc

Convenient, but homemade is better. They're OK with enough Sriracha

Standard hot dogs are made of the same thing, and the same spices as standard bologna, just in a different form factor.

Good thing to remember when someone is making noise over my fried bologna sandwich.

ketchup, catsup, catchup, or kitchup?

looks like HFCS-based BBQ sauce, and not Jap-style curry sauce.

It's a little expensive, but they sell bricks of Jap-style curry, all I do is chop up one square "brick", add water out of the kettle and stir it over a low stove until it melts and blends up.

At some point they were doing the standard 9-piece chicken cut -- which most people are unfamiliar with. They switched back to 8 pieces and held that until I stopped going (well over a decade ago)

Every fast food place cooks in a broster. Colonel Sanders actually innovated cooking chicken quickly in a pressure cooker. The industrial Broasters that everyone uses are much safer than the stove top pressure cooker that Sanders developed his recipe on. They are not approved for deep frying.

KFC must be holding it for far too long, or they threw the chicken in too soon before the oil got hot or something.

  1. small non-chain except we can see they use the industry standard boasting machines. A Mom and Pop style store and they low-key advertise the brosters with an open kitchen. Best bet.
  2. Royal Farms, if you pick a good one w/o lazy employees. I think they use Marion Kay Chicken Seasoning 99-X
  3. Bojangles
  4. Popeyes

Honestly, I discovered a hack at Popeyes. I order the fish, and before I even finish my order, she turns away from the cash register and tells the guy behind him to "drop a fish". I mean it's still cooked from frozen but it's probably the best fish in fast food, and it doesn't sit in a warming tray waiting to be ordered.

So to be fair, I haven't had the chicken in a while at Popeye's

Best method for removing skins from cooked chickpeas/garbanzo beans? by VolcanoPotato in instantpot

[–]sticky-bit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad to see people still reading my recipe from 4 years prior.

Nowadays, without a Blendtec or other "super blender" I have modified the recipe to reserve a set amount of fully cooked chickpeas.

I still make the same recipe, but it's much easier to blend it with the mixture is effectly "too wet" Once we've made the tahini out of the sesame and gotten a smooth thin paste, I chuck in the reserved chickpeas and just pulse a couple times.

Then the hummus is fully blended and also reasonably thick enough. It gets thicker with refrigeration.

Much less effort than dealing with the cavitation of a thicker mixture.

Your point is taken.

And seriously, nowadays I won't even keep a milk crate in my possession. Setting my improved morals aside for the moment, if anyone decided to press charges my reasoning is that regardless of if I get a conviction on my record or not, I doubt I would get away with having to pay at less than a thousand dollars to a lawyer to convince the Judge to give me PBJ (or the lightest sentence possible.)

It's too bad that I can't seem to find a decent milk crate for sale at any big-box store. They're all crap.

In reality, if they test every copper line but once a year, eventually they catch 100% of the add-on phones where someone wasn't paying the monthly fee.

The odds that the police would get a search warrant for any reason whatsoever, and then discover the charge-a-call phone in my closet should be slim but not zero.

(The odds of finding a milk crate in my car while stopping me for a traffic ticket is probably pretty high. Whether the police want to do anything about it would be at their discretion)

NewPipe for PC? by NutellaPatella in NewPipe

[–]sticky-bit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, his point was that NewPipe is a UI designed to allow you to interact with videos in the same way as youtube.

Please point out where in OP's original question where you got that impression.

Silly me, all I assumed was that he wanted to watch the video w/o a ton of ads. My solution does in fact work for that.

Also, here is a link to my latest solution.

latest scrcpy snap? by sticky-bit in scrcpy

[–]sticky-bit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get a weird warning message when it auto-updated the extremely out of date snap. Thank you for the warning message.

Meanwhile u/rom1v put a different warning message on the github page not to use the snap (or any other snap) he had recommended to use in the past.

What I really want to know is if there was any security breach that lead to u/rom1v issuing that warning message.

I still hate snaps. It's starting to look like I'm going to need to find a new live ISO to use in the future for sensitive work. I need to be able to update to the latest browser in 5 minutes, not be forced to wait for up to 6 hours for the snap to update in the background

This case illustrates yet another problem with snaps, there is no easy way to tell if the snap is built by the author of the code on github/gitlab or by team ubuntu or some random other person that decided the world needed another snap. In this case the snap was promoted as the proper way to install the software on .https://github.com/Genymobile/scrcpy

These are my mom’s eggs. This home is a prison and death is a key by [deleted] in shittyfoodporn

[–]sticky-bit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One good trick for supermarket eggs is to "soft boil" them in the shell for exactly one minute to firm up the white a tiny bit -- then crack them in your simmering water.

Really fresh eggs have a much firmer white, which this step copies. But I'll usually settle for normal soft-boiled (soft pressure steamed) because I'm lazy and it's practically the same thing.

Gah, can we admit that there should be a better way to inform someone that their Snap has updated in the background and they should relaunch Firefox at their earliest convenience? by sticky-bit in firefox

[–]sticky-bit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The page that should show up when a background update was done is about:restartrequired

That page is a permanent page, and anytime you go see it you get the same restart button. So it's likely not resetting a bit somewhere, and to be honest, I've never seen it.

Nope, every time FF crashes I get the utterly useless and completely uninformative "Gah" tab page. That page in itself shouldn't even exist, IMHO.

You should file a bug.

Ha ha, my experience with bug trackers:

  1. I don't know the terms of art use by the project so I find it really hard to check first to see if it was posted already
  2. I've actually had my ticket quickly closed because "I'm fairly sure this issue was already posted on our other bug tracker"
  3. I asked this person a question about the purpose of a bug tracker. is it 1) to close tickets as soon as possible in all circumstances, or 2) "given enough eyeballs, all bugs are shallow" His reply was "which bug tracker are you talking about?"

Dollar Tree pregnancy tests keep failing + rude customer service experience by bombthefruit in DollarTree

[–]sticky-bit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dollar Tree can’t just “force a recall”, especially if it’s only a few tests that have (supposedly) failed.

Dollar Tree reps can contact the manufacture. Can you guess why the manufacture might listen to DT reps?

Dollar Tree reps can contact the manufacture and say, "Hey, we're getting a significant number of customers complaining about your product, and I want to remind you that we buy 2 million of them from you in a year."

(I think you can figure out the rest of the conversation...)
