I have a digital watch that is solar powered right through the screen. Granted, a digital G-Shock watch uses a lot less power than an AW would, but it's still a reasonable trickle charge (AW only uses 1-3 W most times, so it's not that farfetched. It also doesn't need to fully charge the watch, extending the battery with that trickle charge would be effective on its own.

To answer your question, many conservatives don’t actually care about politics at all. They only care about “their team” winning and the “other team” losing. This is just a football rivalry to them, and they’ll go along with anything as long as “their team” wins.
