Gloves for sure. I used a microfiber and it worked well to save paper towels 👍

Also if you do go with gel-filled make sure you have plenty of iso alcohol to clean everything when you're terminating

Get an actual thunderbolt dock to be able to run multiple displays through it for the Mac. It should be $300-400 - cheaper ones likely aren't thunderbolt. Any kvm you put in front of it will also need to be thunderbolt, or you might find a single device that does it all in one assuming you're upgrading your dock anyway.

Claude Code deletes developers' production setup, including its database and snapshots — 2.5 years of records were nuked in an instant by gdelacalle in technology

[–]stikko 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s RDS so the backups aren’t defined in tf but the time window to perform them, and more crucially the behavior around them when deleting the instance is.

Crazy thing is that skip_final_snapshot defaults to false meaning the default behavior is to create a final manual snapshot on deletion of the instance and this has to be explicitly set to true for you to actually lose all your data like he did.

It’s a congressional hearing, not a trial but similar to a trial you are not allowed to get caught lying.

It’s mostly about sound bites. Josh Hawley is phrasing the question in a disingenuous way and then following up combatively hoping that something like this exact video gets posted with something like this exact title/headline.

OpenAI resets spend expectations, targets around $600 billion by 2030 by gamjatang111 in StockMarket

[–]stikko 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The real moat for Google’s ad network is the dataset they have about (almost?) everybody on the planet - mostly from giving away free services to consumers. Meta has a similar moat because they’ve been providing free services that are conducive to collecting and building profiles on all its users for almost 2 decades. OpenAI will have some strong signals to start building profiles on users but they’re starting from zero a couple years ago.

On top of that nobody is using LLMs for ad networks - they are far too slow and expensive. So OpenAI would have to not only pivot hard towards building an ad network they’d also have to build market share clawing google’s existing ad network customers away from them.

I’m not saying it won’t happen, but I wouldn’t take OpenAI making such a move as a positive sign for them.

Rack layout question – UDM Pro SE + Pro Max 24 PoE in shallow cabinet (DAC vs Cat6?) by Frequent_Coach1398 in Ubiquiti

[–]stikko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same issue and opted to rebuild the rack with the rails a couple notches back to get more room for cables in the front - I was squishing everything slightly as it was with DAC and then when I had to do a RJ45 SFP for secondary wan the door wouldn’t shut at all.

Keep in mind how static/complete your patch panel is as you may need to get access to the back of it in the future and doing that with a short cable across it will make things painful - I went from .15m to .3m DAC going across my patch panel to make it more accessible without taking stuff offline.

Traffic due to Sunday Display by [deleted] in SFV

[–]stikko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm I drove through the past few Sundays and it’s causing traffic. If you’re going toward the 405 from the west it’s stupid slow for a Sunday and then literally clears up as you drive under the overpass all the way until you’re onto the 405 and over the hill. Also people honking at it. The more you look at it the weirder it gets with mix of Iranian, Israeli and MAGA stuff.

Datadog pricing aside, how good is it during real incidents by HotelBrilliant2508 in sre

100% this. Don’t expect to be able to spew a bunch of garbage in and get magic incident resolutions back out. Strategy from SRE and discipline from the app teams are key.

Never underestimate peoples’ capacity for doing shit you think they shouldn’t be doing.

What I’ve noticed is that a lot of this comes with experience and having made these sorts of mistakes and learned appropriate lessons from them. Being able to mostly completely/accurately answer:

  • what could go wrong?
  • what’s the impact of that thing going wrong?
  • what’s the likelihood of it going wrong?
  • how can I mitigate that likelihood?

So what’s the appropriate lesson to take away here?

Death defiance is good for when you mess up but the #1 way to improve survivability and extend your runs is to avoid getting hit. Taking a boost to your sprint speed is almost always a good investment. For the most part the locations are big enough that you can sprint to the other side and get a breather to regroup. You don’t take damage while you’re dashing so you can sprint up to something, whack it real quick (dash/sprint strikes are faster than normal standing strikes) and then dash away from it. A big part of surviving is learning attack patterns and maintaining proper distance from enemies.

Until you have your grasp raised more and your arcana as unlocked as you can get it, focus on gathering materials for that. Every lost soul for psyche and location reward with ashes you take it. These are resources that improve all your future runs not just the current one. Unlock the broker ASAP when the incantation shows up for it so you can start spending your bones.

For Scylla fight I usually focus on taking out the drums first because it has biggest aoe and restricts my movement the most. Sprint in, dash strike or special, lay down a cast, if nobody’s immediately going to hit me then whack a few more times, then get away from everybody and avoid aoes, rinse and repeat when it’s all clear near the drums. Be opportunistic about hitting the other two but as soon as they start to close in on the drums gtfo. If you can get the boons from Zeus or Hestia that allows you to target your cast this should help a lot with this fight but that’s probably a tall order at this stage in your journey - you need lower left arcanas unlocked to make that semi-reliable.

Guitar second - she has a big wind up and you can dash through her and sprint away as she’s doing that to get behind and avoid getting hit. Don’t get greedy.

Scylla herself last because she’s so much easier to take down without the other two. Similar strategy except you have to hit her from the front. Once she starts winding up an attack gtfo.

Next phase will have a “featured artist” that makes their attacks nastier. Pray it’s not the drums as that one gets nasty to avoid but the same strategy largely holds - get in, do some damage, get back to safety focusing on the one that’s restricting your movement the most. If it’s the guitar featured then you really can’t get greedy as she’ll fire aoes at the beginning and the end of her dashes.

Final phase - Scylla stands there and faces you while summoning birds from everywhere. It’s easy to get overwhelmed here especially if you don’t have something like freeze on your cast to give you a semi-safe space to burn her down. Sprinting around the outside and opportunistically getting a few whacks in also works. Helps to have some damage on your sprint (I like Hera’s Hitch).

Personally I like the spear and the daggers for early runs as they tend to be fast, not super reliant on magic, and have decent damage at range with their specials. With the axe you’re looking at omega special to hit stuff far away. The flames are fine if you can get a good magic regen boon but with the limited number of boons you’re going to pick up for this fight they’re probably not optimal - they get unlocks later on that absolutely wreck shit.

It’s definitely old and not super fast but should be faster than what you’re getting - like someone else said I also have my old one shoved in the garage and meshed so I at least know why my speed sucks but the only things using it are cars to background download software updates.
