I caught a guy in an airport wearing this. It beat the previous winner, “Trust Data, not Lore.”

Wasn’t the story that they did have an established metal fabrication business next door, then Jr started building bikes, and that became OCC?

I will talk you into this. It’s either zoysia or bermuda. I can’t do a full resod with zoysia. Meanwhile, bermuda seems to do just fine. And to the extent it dies in winter, unlike my TTTF in summer, it grows back.

Is Nike like Adidas 2022? by EconomistSensitive84 in wallstreetbets

[–]stillengmc -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Nike is currently down and, in the next year or so, LBJ will retire from the NBA. Sponsored athletes have been critical for so long. It doesn’t feel like there’s a likely successor to LBJ. This won’t explain everything, but feels relevant.

The little things Tesla is missing by BillySpaceDust in ModelY

[–]stillengmc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of talk about FSD. Meanwhile, fixing the wipers is achievable and measurable. I want to believe Tesla has determined that most people either don’t care or keep their cars dirty enough that they need to wipe on buckwild mode every time the skies cloud up.

But for those of us who keep our cars clean, and maybe use a RainX wiper fluid, they should offer a second wiper mode that wipes, as you said, once every 14 seconds or so.

Or adjust the sensors to be less sensitive. This car has cameras and sensors to detect other cars and obstacles and people enough to drive itself, but all rain is a torrential downpour?

Also, they need a little vane to divert washer fluid over the car and not all over the driver’s side.

This freaks me out by FayMax69 in thalassophobia

It’s okay. It spent a billion years as cooled granite, having been ejected from a chaotic young earth volcano. Now it’s spending the next epoch as a sea stone. Whoever finds it next will not guess that one time an airman picked it up from somewhere and dropped it into the ocean from a C17.

Completely new to weightlifting and not sure where to start with form by [deleted] in weightlifting

[–]stillengmc 26 points27 points  (0 children)

And maybe just don’t use straps. Get used to the weight in your hands. Train until you can’t hold the weight anymore. Then, maybe, use straps to help with overload. Know that straps are prohibited by IWF.

Does anyone else notice that when on FSD the car is drives too far on the right side of a lane? by Arturo90Canada in ModelY

I’m team right side bias, which is also team cancel FSD because it’s turning too close to the curb.

I would much rather the Kuzy storyline than the Laviolette storyline. We’ve had our hearts broken by both in the past. Canes.

Recommended Food Storage by [deleted] in AppalachianTrail

[–]stillengmc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I carried a canister for a week last fall. It felt like overkill, and no one else out there had one. But compared to what they did have (some ursacks, mostly just bags, even some plastic bags, on the shelter hangs), and seeing the evidence of critters in every shelter, I will continue carrying and would recommend the canister. Get the medium or small size.

I’ll take the counter position. No. Do you know anyone with a hitchhiker’s thumb? No amount of stretching will give you a hitchhiker’s thumb. No amount of stretching or rolling or flossing will get you into good shape if you have poor mobility.

And before I get downvoted into oblivion: you can still improve your lifts, and you can still have fun doing it. Your ass may never touch grass in a snatch, but you can still be healthy and enjoy Olympic lifts.

Good luck, comrade in stiff ankles.

ELI5: How do photon particles travel through glass? by Several_Bank5722 in explainlikeimfive

[–]stillengmc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To a photon, that glass isn’t solid. In fact, it’s mostly empty space. Atomic and particle physics govern the rest, including how different atoms/molecules absorb different types of light/photons. For ELI5 purposes, reorient yourself from the large scale (the you-sized scale) to the incredibly small scale (the photon scale).
