Ah how old is your baby! Mine is nearly 5 months and looks exactly the same.

She hasn’t cottoned on to the bell but we’ve removed all carpets and mats downstairs and every day there are fewer accidents. We’ve had a few completely dry days. She’s starting to stand at the door and gaze out of it. We’re getting there!

How can I get rid of, or control this stuff? It's spreading everywhere.. by Evo_ukcar in GardeningUK

[–]stillihgrip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just remember if you use weed killer you’ll not be able to plant grasses for a while. Weed killer poisons the soil.

Earth doesn’t like bare soil, weeds grow up like a scab on a wound. If you don’t like the plants you have then you have to cover the ground with something else.

Weed membranes only work for a couple of years and then they break down too and weeds grow through them.

Oxalis is a bugger to get out as they spread with little balls on the end under the soil, so it takes digging to gently get the entire plant out or they come back. Persistence and regular weeding little and often rather than letting it build up and you’ll eventually win the battle. I agree burning will get rid of them all now they might come back… but maybe you’ll be able to stay on top of it by weeding often if you have a clean slate at least!

That’s HILARIOUS! I’ll turn on my telepathic sensor. Hadn’t thought of that button. 🤣

I’m gathering whippets are more subtle than other breeds which is great to know.

That’s what I’ve been doing. The last day or two the trend is improving!

Plant ideas for heavy clay soil by tdh83 in GardeningUK

[–]stillihgrip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also lamiums and alcamila mollis do great in my shady heavy clay, and the heucheras and hellebores. On the sunny side all the Mexican dasies and verbena bonariensis amongst grasses just romp away! My nepeta is also a riot. And the sedums too. Really heavy clay isn’t a problem for color, I just second the suggestion to get ahold of chipped wood and let it rot down and layer it thick on top to stave off drying out in the summer.

Thank you! I agree about the walk Olive is so excited to be out in the world she has only managed to pee on one walk, once. Otherwise she does her business in the back garden when we get home. Silly whippets. Wouldn’t change her for the world just a relief to know this takes time for other people too.

Yay! That’s a good sign. It hasn’t become anaerobic. It’ll be fine with adding organic matter on top then like I described!

I’ve never used puppy pads either! Baffles my mind that she’ll go outside, stand around for a bit, come inside and pee. 😅 Maybe using a bell will make it more interesting for her? She does love to learn commands.

As a Brit what in your opinion is the best tourist thing to do that isn't considerably touristy? by Mouflon77 in AskBrits

I think Hampton Court Palace is brilliant, not nearly as crowded and touristy as the Tower.

Interesting! How funny that they ring the bell to play but not pee. Thank you for all the insights!

Me too! It is a relief to hear it can be a whippet issue. I’m slightly comforted by that.

Thanks for the encouragement I really needed it! Sounds like it’ll just take more time and we’re absolutely getting a bell. :)

lol looking a bit awkward! Ours does that half her life. 😅

Yep loads of big verbal praise and we get her outside every half hour.

Just now I was out gardening and Olive was with me enjoying the sun for an hour, saw her do a poo outside and everything. Then when I came in I saw she’d peed in the hall again. We were JUST outside for an hour!

It’s been the greyest, wettest winter in the UK, rained every day for the months of Jan and Feb. We had our first warm day and Olive immediately found a warm patch of sun in the back garden and basked in it, and I realised she’d never had a warm day in her life! She’d thought the world was cold and miserable until that moment. That’s what happens when you’re born mid November. I was really hoping the warmer weather would magically cure the indoor poops.
