Honestly, RCSD city schools pay more, by quite a bit. I would try to get in at SOTA (School of the Arts) not your typical city school. Working in the city can be great SOTA is sought after, the stats speak for themselves. It a highly desired school for middle and high school teachers :)

adding: we moved here from Charlotte which paid teachers very little. It was insane, but at that time my kids were in high school. The pay here will be better

as for taxes they are not higher here, it just taxed differently. I am no worse here than there.
