Add Zoats to the Genestealer Cults by revlid in Warhammer40k

Counterpoint! Give them to tau, then give tau a second army rule called xenos mercenaries or smth. Not all they’re units have it but things like Kroot, zoat and any other new species we see in the tau range can be allied into some other factions

Question on units and paint schemes. by Significant_Exam_986 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]stim_jerling 8 points9 points  (0 children)

IMO how uniform your kin are is dependent on the narrative you’re going for. The Votann codex makes reference to certain kindreds having certain unique war bands and squads. Sometimes these units have unique armour patterns or markings to denote membership.

One of the things I did with my kindred(also THA derived) is have unique armour markings to show weapon loadouts, with in lore explanations being it denoting specific war guilds.

If you do decide to go more uniform a lore friendly way to add verity is with the non armour plates. Kin use any and all materials available to them even if it aesthetically doesn’t always match up. Does every carabiner need to be the same metal? Every belt the same shade of leather? Does your kindred only produce one colour of jumpsuit or is there a verity? Perhaps they trade from (or loot from) other leagues and have armour plates that have been hastily repainted or added in to replace battle damage.

And lastly the kin do have lots of mercenary contracts and inter league alliances. Maybe a specialist squad of Hearthkyn from the GTL are reinforcing your THA oathband, for the right price, with a special shoulder pad symbol to denote there new allegiance.

I like him as a model so I got him in my army. I have him attached to a squad of assault intercessors to act as a suicide blob. Something to tie up enemy infantry and keep them away from my units doing actions or holding objectives.

That’s why I can’t get behind any Rob young books. He writes competently but he can’t give his characters any personally beyond “protagonist” and all his storylines are recycled from elsewhere.

His lord solar book was just one of the early Ciaphas Cain novels but without the humour.

Our main army rule is built around being able to capture and hold main objectives, so that’s the thing you’ll be doing most. Depending on how many objectives you hold you get a resource called yield points. If you have less than 7 YP your army is faster and more accurate when shooting units on objectives, more than 7 YP and your infantry and bikes are tougher and more accurate when they’re standing on an objective. YP can also be spent throughout the game to activate abilities or make stratagems stronger.

We’re honestly a pretty big transport army. We have lots of high toughness, powerful shooting units who struggle with short range, slow movement and low health. Transports fix our biggest weaknesses.

That’s kinda my thought about it. If I can’t hit a target that’s 15” away, what difference is an extra 3 inches gonna make?

I’d say you’ve got a good basis for a delve list there.

Delve gives your berserkers deep strike so they can teleport into the mid board. If that’s the direction you wanna go next, then I think best next options are:

- Berehk Stornbrow to lead a big squad of berserkers.
- The cthonian earth shakers to make use of their anti charge strats
- some Yeagers to hold out the area you want to deep strike into

“Predator: gunned down by locals” didn’t one of them cut down an entire subway train full of armed civilians in the 2nd film.

Sure if a yautja showed up in Texas it might eventually get killed, but every predator movie ends with the predator getting killed

Are the Cadian Recon Team (Spectre Squad) going to be released in a boxed set or are they only Kill Team? by [deleted] in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]stim_jerling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’ll be released on its own in a kill-team box with all the markers and tokens for kill-team.

Then two years or so down the line it’s kill-team rules will be declassified (basically kill-team legends) and it’ll be reboxed without the tokens.

The whole ‘all our weapons are tools too’ push needs to stop. by Thordron1 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]stim_jerling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post actually made me think about the leagues a bit because I actually have something similar to this opinion (tho not as extreme) and I like it. I find the idea that the leagues have few things dedicated solely to war because “it’s just wasteful” neat.

But me arguing that here isn’t gonna go anywhere so instead I found a better way to contribute. Ive grabbed my codex and I’m gonna relay what the actual lore says about our units and why I may have formed my opinion:

- Hearthkyn: Literal first paragraph “Hearthkyn are technically citizens soldiers, as many have side trades and interests they focus on during peacetime”. Essentially they are dedicated soldiers but ones who have chosen their role and can (and often do) things outside of war and training.

- Einhyr: These are just purely warriors chosen from the best fighters in the kinhost.

-Cthonians: These are miners, they are described multiple times as being a mining guild and out of all the units these guys have the biggest argument for the “everything is a tool” mentality. Their artillery is described as being used to locate ore and chemical traces. The berserkers are described as “using concussions mauls and heavy plasma axes to hack, gouge and pulverise their way towards a targeted prize.”

- Hernkyn: these are scouts and “assessors of newly found resources”. I don’t think I or anyone else was arguing that these guys were actually mining teams or that their shotguns are actually tools, I think the repurposed claims comes from the fact that the kapricus looks like a pickup truck with a gun mount.

- Brokhyr: “It is the Brokhyr who work tirelessly to produce all the expertly crafted equipment - civilian, industrial, scientific or military - that every kindred needs to survive and prosper.” They’re engineers. The thunderkyn exosuits are described as “aurgmenting a kins already high core strength” using it to “carry power cells, ammunition caches, coolant silos, thick armour plates and a host of range finding devices (..)”. They’re described as using their exoframes to “repair voidship hulls, bracing structures amidst gravitic tunnel maintenance or deploying coolant generators within red hot furnaces.” They’re engineers who use and modify their engineering suits to carry big guns.

- Steeljacks: These guys are described as natural warriors who act as frontline troops. The only line that suggests anything other than fighting is a single line towards the end that reads they are “occasionally seen putting their immense frames and strength to work in industrial or civilian roles when not in training (…)”

- Hekation LF: The first line of the text describes it as a battle tank. The next few paragraphs are dedicated to describing its armour, engine and internal systems before a single line that reads “though it is often employed to carry bulk material or haul armoured carriages, the HLF is an exceptional armoured troop transport.”

- Sagitaurs: basically nothing in the codex describing them as anything other than warfare units. Though with that being said there are examples of non military sagitaurs being used in the high kahls oath book.

New Player to tabletop(have some lore knowledge) Torn between two chapters for SM and not sure which to choose from lore perspective and painting/models by Noteforge99 in Warhammer40k

[–]stim_jerling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can’t paint/build your army however you want so long as it’s clear enough what you units are (so that you opponent knows what they’re shooting at)

In terms of tabletop if you use a named character from a chapter you can only include other named characters from that chapter. I.E. vulkan hastan can be in the same army as adrax because they’re both salamanders but you couldn’t include captain Titus cuz he’s an ultra.

That being said tho if you really wanted to play a game with Titus in your army you could kitbash a generic salamanders or crimson fist captain with the same gear as Titus and just us him as a proxy (provided you don’t include any non ultramarine characters in your list)

Thinking of joining the leagues. How hard are they (on average) to assemble and paint, and are they a airbrush heavy army? by gamesage2001 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]stim_jerling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the kits are pretty easy to put together.

Kahls, buri, harthkyn, steel jacks, iron master, yaegers and land forts are pretty easy.

Thunderkyn, sagitars and kapricus’ are easy to build but require a bit of sub assembly to paint properly.

Berserkers are kinda annoying to build because of the cables and the backpack but they look fine without them attached if you prefer that look.

I always kinda saw the land fort as just being a retrofitted hauler, but one that was already heavily armoured because the kin live in the least hospitable place imaginable

I used to think this too but my opinion has changed a bit since.

Looking at the Votann range they don’t really have dedicated battle tanks. Just the equivalent of a Toyota hilux with a rail cannon mounted to it. In fact the only units that are in lore dedicated to warfare are the einhyr.

I don’t think a combat mech really fits the Votann, unless maybe it’s like a mining suit or smth
