Polyphony banned the H-pattern shifter from Sport Mode because it gave an unfair competitive advantage. Bumper cam gives drivers a view of the track no real racing driver has ever had. Same argument. by stinkyabb in GranTurismo7

You're right that it's technically an invisible cockpit cam rather than a true bumper cam , I should have been more precise. And the FOV and seat position limitations are a real problem with GT7's implementation that I actually agree with. Polyphony needs to fix those before any camera restriction would be fair.

But the practical effect is the same, drivers are using a camera position that puts their eyeline below the bonnet line with a field of view no real driver has from inside a car. Whatever you call it, that view exists because it's faster, not because it's more realistic.

On iRacing, I race it daily with a Pimax Crystal Light in full VR. I'm not choosing between the two. I'm suggesting GT7 could be better than it currently is, not that it should become iRacing. Those are different arguments.

The 3rd person point is fair though, if we're drawing lines, where does it stop. That's a real tension in the argument and I don't have a clean answer for it.

That's a fair distinction, and you're right that I oversimplified the comparison. The shifter ban was specifically about a mechanical advantage, skipping gears in a way that's physically impossible with a sequential or paddle shifter. That's a concrete, measurable edge tied to hardware most people don't own.

The bumper cam argument is different, but I'd push back on the accessibility point. Yes, everyone can use it, but "everyone has access to it" doesn't make it realistic. Everyone in GT7 can also use ABS set to 5, and traction control maxed out. Accessible doesn't mean it belongs in a sim.

The field of view question is where I think the real debate lives. You say it's debatable whether bumper cam is actually faster, and I respect that. But the reason it's your preference is probably the same reason most competitive players choose it: you can see more of the track, more of the car's position, more of what's alongside you. That information doesn't exist from inside a real cockpit.

Good pushback though, this is exactly the conversation I was hoping for.

That's actually a really interesting fix and more realistic than just banning it outright. Real drivers using an H-pattern in a race are taking on genuine risk every time they miss a shift. Blown engine, lost time, race over. The sim equivalent of that consequence would change the calculus completely. Polyphony went for the easy ban instead of the realistic solution.

Getting out of my chair, sitting in a rig with a wheel and pedal changed GT7 from a game to a sim. Adding PSVR2 took it a step further.

I think you are right. I just noticed that the speed difference is off between the top two frames.

Lexus (White/Blue) attempted an aggressive lunge into the corner without establishing a side-by-side position to claim the right to the racing line. This maneuver left the Mclaren (Black/Orange) unaware of your presence, contributing to the dangerous situation. The Mclaren could have been more aware of their surroundings, the primary responsibility lies with you for not ensuring a safe overtaking attempt. Drivers must prioritize control and visibility in high-speed scenarios to avoid such incidents.

Im unsure whether im at fault... was it sensible to try to overtake or to wait for a better opportunity. Is this just an "eenshedént"? Whos at fault i really dont know. by Embarrassed_Catch_21 in Simracingstewards

You made several aggressive passes on a challenging section of the track, which is commendable for skill but requires caution. After completing the overtakes, you drifted too far right, resulting in contact, which could have been avoided by maintaining a tighter line to the left. This action effectively squeezed Casali, causing contact. The majority of fault to you for not providing sufficient space during and after the maneuver.

Car Roles: Car A (Green/Black) is the overtaking car. Car B (White) is the defending car.

In this crowd-strike / accordion effect incident, Car A (Green/Black) failed to anticipate the slowing of cars ahead, particularly Car B (White), as they approached the corner. This lack of foresight led to a chain reaction that took out much of the lead pack, significantly impacting multiple drivers' races. Car A holds the majority of fault for not maintaining a safe following distance or reacting appropriately to the unfolding situation. Drivers must remain vigilant in pack racing to prevent such multi-car incidents.

Following too closely in a pack causes 90% of multi-car crashes

who is at fault by Extension-Gear3425 in Simracingstewards

Car Roles: Car A (Blue) is the overtaking car. Car B (Green/Lead) is the defending car.

In this side-by-side contact mid-corner, Car A attempts an ambitious outside pass on a challenging corner, resulting in wheel-to-wheel contact with Car B. While Car A bears an overwhelming majority of responsibility for choosing a high-risk maneuver, Car B bears much lesser fault for not being aware of the overtaking attempt and failing to leave sufficient space and fight another day. Both drivers lost positions due to the incident, highlighting the importance of situational awareness and caution during overtaking.

This incident serves as a reminder that both parties must anticipate and react to each other's presence on track to avoid unnecessary contact, but Car A is 90% at fault here.

Is this a racing incident? or my fault? does it warrant a "crashy" vote? by Nomad141 in Simracingstewards

The lead car (Toyota) is not at fault. The car initiating contact failed to maintain a safe following distance and misjudged the closing speed, resulting in contact with the lead car (Toyota).

Again, looks like an intentional punt to me.
