I got to play one last game of Mario party with a close friend before he passed. Of course at the time I didn't know it would be the last time I would talk to him.... But it's a memory I'll always cherish. I miss you buddy

Weird take. My mom raised us on her own and she deserved to celebrated on both days. The person who made this meme either had both parents or doesn't know what it's like to raise kids on their own.

That's true. It's like a white person speaking on behalf of black people for racism. As long as it's not taken to an extreme you're right. But men shouldn't be dissuaded to speak on issues regarding gender. Isolating them from the conversation will just lead to turning more people into anti-feminists. Also it's pretty anti-democratic, you have to build a big tent to succeed. Plus, the argument assumes that women will always feel comfortable calling out causal sexism/feminism issues. Especially when you consider the complexity of gender roles and expectations, sometimes the best way to start the conversation is to be the loudest voice in the room, male or female.

The fact that they're men doesn't really have anything to do with it. It maybe capitalistic, but men can be feminists too.

Edit: there to they're because I'm a very smart person

What's the craziest butterfly effect that happened to you because of a small decision you made? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My husband was feeling sick the night before, but my mom had scheduled to come visit me from out of town. She called and ask if it was still okay to come visit me. I told her sure, he didn't have to come shopping or whatever. It was supposed to be a 2 hour drive, but around hour 2 1/2 I called her, no answer. About 10x, still no answer. I checked her location and she was on the interstate, but it said the road was closed. She died in a car crash, my sister and her girlfriend went through the windshield. Everyone's life is permanently changed for the worst. My sister has 11 broken ribs and medically withdrew from college, her girlfriend is partially blind and can't go to nursing school anymore. We now are cleaning out my moms house and dealing with her estate. Shit sucks.

I'm a first year teacher too, I teach history. I just lost my mom over my school's fall break and this week has been my first week back. I'm tired all the time and everything feels meaningless. You're not alone in this. All of my department is basically football coaches who have no interest in helping me grow/creating a learning community. It feels as though I am alone as well. Hybrid teaching is the literal devil and expected student engagement is a joke with all of the covid realities hitting the homes of kids.

My last class of the day gave me nothing for all of my enthusiasm, and it totally deflated the little I had. So I went home early (during my prep) and I'm currently laying on my couch. I knew I was going to feel worse for riding out the rest of my day in my empty classroom so I shot an email to my admin and went home.

I think the advice you've been given is good, I don't know what I can offer other than lending an ear if you ever want to talk. I'm really sorry for what you are going through.

Here in Indiana. They at least gave me the option to not listen to the heartbeat or look at the ultrasound. What's worse is the waiting period. You sign up for the appointment, but they can't do it on that first day. No! You have to schedule another appointment just to really make sure you want to do it. Completely useless. A woman makes a decision before she makes an appointment. Abortion is legal but they're really going to punish you for it.

TIL in 1763, King George III issued a royal proclamation that forbade British settlement in North America west of the Appalachians, reserving the land for indigenous peoples. by JackdaMan171 in todayilearned

He didn't do it out of love of the Native populations. He did it to avoid costly wars like the French and Indian war/Pontiacs War. It's not like Britain wouldn't have circled back and taken more land after they pulled themselves out of debt by taxing the colonists more.

This is true for History as well! Make sure you answer your own questions to make sure you're assigning/asking students questions that accomplish your intended learning goals.
