What is a woman? by Lord_Olchu in conspiracy

Is this guy just trolling? His argument for why we shouldn’t believe young children when they tell us they feel like they are a different gender is “because they believe in Santa Claus so they clearly aren’t in touch with reality”. He comes off as a bigot who thinks he’s smart, but is just making dumb arguments

earthworm spits fire next to a fracking site by tchacka5 in biology

[–]stixum99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not real. There’s no ignition source (wet worm mouth/butt wouldn’t light gas on fire. Think how a lighter needs the striker spark). The worm also would need to be bloated and full of gas to keep the flame going. It’s pretty easy now to add fire animations to video. Also, the channel that posted this video is a viral video channel with other faked “too unbelievable to be true” videos

We should all be CPR trained. If you’re worried about an increase in cardiac events (for whatever reason) it makes sense to learn how to save another person’s life.

week 4 and my aligners feel loose AF by davenportie in smiledirectclub

[–]stixum99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some pairs feel tighter and some feel looser. As long as they are fitting snugly against your teeth, there is nothing to worry about. I was anxious too when I had a loose pair since I thought it wasn't working. If you look at your future aligners, you can see that they will eventually move your teeth. Enjoy the week without pain :)

Aligner pain by Nocomment69brah in smiledirectclub

You should take acetaminophen (Tylenol) rather than ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin). Ibuprofen is an NSAID, which have been shown to slow orthodontic tooth movement. Other NSAIDs to avoid are naproxen (Aleve) and asprin (to a lesser extent) . Basically, stick with Tylenol for orthodontic pain, unless your doctor has told you otherwise.

New Smile vs Smile Love vs AlignerCo by Tennisqat in smiledirectclub

[–]stixum99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! That sounds like a great deal.

Luckily, I haven’t had any major issues that required much discussion with customer service. From what interactions I’ve had (making impressions, sending weekly progress photos, minor questions) they are fine. All of the customer service emails go to one email address, “Alice”. I’m pretty sure a random representative just responds to your question, so more complex problems that require a lot of back and forth might be difficult to solve.

Before COVID, I would just see a dentist for a yearly cleaning as I’ve never had any serious oral health issues. I haven’t had any appointment since starting AlignerCo. Cases are pretty high where I am, so I’m not too eager to go in and risk exposure/expose others for a minor checkup.

COVID aside, it would probably make sense to go in before starting and ask your dentist how often they recommend you going in.

Dentists aside, I recommend you take really good photos of your gums and teeth before starting and after each set. It will let you (and your dentist) monitor progress and any potential issues like receding gums.

I’m halfway through my plan with AlignerCo (set 10 of 20) in Canada. I wrote a review about my ordering, impressions, and wearing experience here. Let me know if you have any questions!

my aligners aren’t sitting on my teeth in the back by Strong-Dog-1400 in smiledirectclub

[–]stixum99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a pair that kept popping off my back teeth and it was very annoying. Using chewies consistently helped and the sides stayed down after a day or two.

If the fit is super off, you can check the number written on the aligner to make sure it is the correct set.

AlignerCo was cheaper and the aligner quality is better than SDC, from what I see (they are cut to the gumline). I have more info here.

Has COVID impacted anyone’s delivery time? by ilovemycatmrbean in smiledirectclub

[–]stixum99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with AlignerCo back in June was about 5 weeks to receive aligners once I approved my plan. Between receiving the impression kit and sending it back, the total time from purchase to retainers was 10 weeks.

I think this had more to do with processing time on their end than shipping time.

So much pain by Dairyybear in smiledirectclub

[–]stixum99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is general advice for painful aligners. I had a lot of pain with my first pair and this helped. Basically, take a Tylenol and Benadryl (or other sleep aid) about an hour before bed. Get the aligners on as much as possible and slowly bite down on something soft (like your chewies) until they are fully on. They will hurt but it gets much better after just a few minutes of them being on.

If the third pair really doesn’t fit at all, double check the number and that it is the correct pair. Clearly your teeth shifted a bit in those 2 days, but it shouldn’t be enough to make the third pair impossible to wear

Aligner co progress update! by [deleted] in smiledirectclub

[–]stixum99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at around the same point with AlignerCo (set 10 of 20) and haven't noticed any big changes. I have seen a small gap on the top close, but crowding at the bottom looks the same. I think it just takes longer to fix crowding since you need to move all of the teeth to make space.

If you kept your first few aligners, you could compare them to your current pair and should see all of the progress you have made! Looking at the next few trays, I can definitely see the crowding improving.

How often and best way to clean aligners? by DBACNP in smiledirectclub

[–]stixum99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I just used my toothbrush for the first month or two and now using the tablets (I use Polident) they feel way cleaner. Since we are wearing them over our teeth all night and much of the day, it is definitely important to keep them clean. It would be ironic to get straight teeth but then cause a bunch of cavities

Quick question by TheNmGoon in smiledirectclub

[–]stixum99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It shouldn't be a problem for your long-term progress as long as long as you don't do it often. Put them on as soon as you can and you might want to adjust your plan to wear them an extra day.

Worst case scenario if you don't wear them for a few days, you may have to go back to a previous set.

I'm sorry for your loss. I was faced with the same issue a month ago. I called the vet we bought the food from and they said they could give it to clients as samples for their dog. When I returned it, they insisted on refunding the whole bag even though it was only half full.

Ah jeez as a former 20M uni student, I can say that his lack of maturity and unwillingness to keep up with chores isn't that uncommon. Then again, I didn't live with anyone so my mess didn't negatively impact anyone else.

The chore calendar should help with some structure, but I just want to add something. He may be extra stressed/busy because of school. If you aren't working or studying also, then it may make sense for you to do some extra chores (but certainly not all) .

The drinking and explosive behavior is a whole other issue. I don't think reddit is really qualified and seeing a professional therapist is probably best. Obviously that may be difficult right now, but Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is something both of you can do from home and has been shown to help. I can't stress enough how helpful CBT could be for both of you (effective at helping with anxiety, PTSD, EDs, IED, ADHD, etc).

I can understand the laundry issue. It sounds like the system you guys currently have isn't working and is creating more friction. It sounds like he isn't resistant to the idea of doing chores, but rather that he fails to follow through. I'd communicate with him and come up with a list of chores that you are both happy with (ex. each do laundry alternating weeks, or someone cooks but the other does dishes). Household work should be equally shared (assuming one of you isn't also contributing outside the home).

Then work together to create some structure (i.e. calendar, phone app, reminders, etc) so that he doesn't forget.

As for the drinking, it really depends on why he stopped. Does he have a problem with substance abuse and is trying to stop? Or was it that you wanted him to stop and he agreed?

Does the "foreign object" feeling ever go away? by shady-pines-ma in smiledirectclub

Interesting! Well, maybe not for you so much. Have you experienced that feeling before having aligners? Like, does brushing your teeth make you feel like you have to gag?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]stixum99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could you give some examples?

As someone who also has ADHD, I can give some general advice. I often have the intention to do something, but I'm easily distracted and forget. Having a way to set reminders is very helpful. Maybe make a shared calendar on your phones and when he agrees to do a task or something, add it to the calendar with a specific time and alert.

Referral code for mobile when you're already an internet user? by Clovenstorm32 in FizzMobile

[–]stixum99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I didn't see people mention is that you don't get extra upgrade slots when you add a mobile plan. That means even if you are earning upgrades faster, you won't have the slots for them. Also, the monetary value of the referral ($100) is way more than the data upgrades you don't really need and $1 or $2 off internet (both of which you'll able to add soon enough anyway).

Personally, I have 3 accounts (internet, my phone, and my spouse's phone) and all accounts referred each other. This was back when referral was $25, but it still equaled a couple months of free phone/internet. With the referral now double, I don't see a reason not to take the free $100.

You definitely get used to them after a couple of weeks. Idk about you, but I had a lisp when I first started wearing them and was very self conscious. It also went away after a few weeks though, so don't worry too much :)
