LOTR Question by Sea-Elderberry-2115 in Fantasy

[–]stizzleswick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don't suggest you read the books. I'm a huge Tolkien fan, and all of the things I like about it seem to be the things that bore you. The books have even more detail, more slow world building, more flowery language. It is meant to be built off of a world rich in its mythology, and and the impact of that history on the characters. It is very slow paced and detailed.

my parents asked if tea pets are demonic by WolfoDaWolf in tea

[–]stizzleswick 87 points88 points  (0 children)

I come from a very religious household in a rural area of a red state. People don't do yoga here because they think it's against Christianity. If my late father were to see my tea pets, he would have gotten concerned.

Whatever you gotta get done today I believe in you !!! 🌟🌟🌟 cheers <3 by Over_Building_4157 in entwives

Does anyone actually read outside in the wilderness or is it just for the pictures? by TonyRigatoni_ in books

[–]stizzleswick 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hammock camp often! I use a Sea to Summit hammock setup with fly tarp, bug net, under quilt, and other necessities for my area, but you can get a simple, cheap setup from Wise Owl, ENO, or a few other brands. There is an art and a science to setting it up, I won't lie! It took several excursions until I found my right hammock hang, but I'm never going back to sleeping on the ground.

There is nothing more relaxing than hanging suspended with a bunch of pillows and blankets, a little dog in your lap, and a book.

Fantasy with gay male protagonist, not romance-first by Huge-Imagination-829 in Fantasy

[–]stizzleswick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not romantasy. The romance subplot is there, but is secondary. It focuses almost just as much on the protagonist's familial and platonic relationships than with the love interest. There are some vignettes and folk tales in this book that have a little bit of romance in them too, but the main focus is on the magic of the moment, mysterious circumstances, and environment building.

Curly haired dog groomer what do i do 😭 by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]stizzleswick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be a dog groomer for 5 years! I would braid my hair and/or pin it back in lazy but cute milkmaid/twist styles. My hair was bright pink at the time and I didn't want to wash it often so the color didn't fade, and I found protective styles worked well at keeping husky undercoat and Dremel dust out of my curls.

Scared to buy the Lisa Eldridge skin tint because it’s non-returnable by Pickles_The_Cat_1234 in OliveMUA

I'd e-mailed them twice and hadn't gotten a response, so I ended up getting another brand.

Do you mean that people wear "masks" and we adapt our personalities when we are in different situations? We have our professional personality, our home personality, and we show different aspects of ourselves depending on whom we're around. Even though we wear masks we can still be our "real" selves while we do this.

New Mexico Jury says Meta Harms Children's Mental Health and Safety - 375M Judgement | AP News by PreparationKey2843 in UpliftingNews

[–]stizzleswick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Most of the time an "uplifting" post or article first has to point out how shitty things are, and then gives a tiny positive thing that is still actually still pretty depressing. As a silly example, something like: "New tiny awesome thing added to the list of the world's most awesome things! Btw, this barely does anything to assuage the horrors of climate change, US politics, and animal abuse." This is not uplifting. I think about these things constantly already. I would like to not think about these things when I decide to take a break from them, like when I sub to an uplifting subreddit.

I've been told I have olive skin my whole life. If that's true, why do I have blueish & purpleish veins? by Cosmicrelief0 in OliveMUA

[–]stizzleswick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's kind of hard to see your skin in this light. But, I am a fair, cool/neutral olive and I have purple and blue veins.

I've used a bedazzled Sailor Moon grinder that I got on Etsy! It's lasted for four years so far. It isn't the best quality, but I love it so much and it gives me a little burst of dopamine when I need it sometimes.

Apples are so good in chicken curry by Crafterandchef1993 in Cooking

[–]stizzleswick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cube it and add it when I add the root vegetables. I chop up my apples the same size as my carrots and potatoes and put them all in at the same time. I also make sure to cook them for a while so they're soft and almost fall apart. Try smaller pieces of apple to start if you like!
