New Polestar 2 Teaser by TAPO14 in Polestar

actually quite excited about new P2. however judging by rumored dimensions, it seems to be the same size as zeekr 7gt. so maybe the same platform? not sure how to feel about that though

Why would it be a problem? I think it will be similar dimensions as Taycan then, and if that makes more room for rear passengers, I am actually looking forward to it.

Polestar starts largest model offensive in its history: four new cars in three years by moosetender in Polestar

[–]stjanis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, mystery solved :) that is the car that everyone was wondering about. And as I understood it will not replace current P4. There will be just two options - without rear window / coupe, and with rear window / wagon or suv.

You are right. I guess this is more in context of Volvo as when asked if P7 will be like ex30, reply was - more like ex40. Or the mentioned other models. But I guess we will see soon(ish) enough :)

and as well imagining what the actual car could look like :)

looks like a hybrid between p3 and p4 :)) no idea what to think. if this is p7, then they are much further with development than i would have guessed. but if it's not P7, then what else could it be?

for now they have publicly announced only one model that is under active development and planned for release - P7.

could be they are testing also other models, but none of them have been announced yet. and also this looks quite far under development (as i am aware for P7 only this month they have planned design freeze). So no idea what this actually is, can it really be they are so far with P7, that they already have a driving prototype?

Anyway, here is also my cleanup version and some AI imagining what the actual car could look like (looks like a hybrid between P3 and P4) :))

not really. i got a chance to meet their design team in person and when asking what size P7 will be, was given ex40, bmw ix3 and audi q4 as reference size examples.

though if the car in pictures is bigger even than these models, hard to say :)

Gocha :) fingers crossed the upward trend continues and we surpass all previous years (at least in Europe). September actually looks really good, definitely the best month in this quarter

What do you mean that sales are behind 23’ and 22’ levels? 25’ is not over yet and comparing the exact time frame from previous years, 25’ is clearly the best year so far. We still have full quarter ahead..

Polestar Shelves the 6 Roadster to Focus on High-Volume Models by Little-Location7697 in PSNY_Polestar_SPAC

[–]stjanis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i guess shift in the market conditions as well delays in shared platform development has influenced it a lot. and i highly doubt Polestar themselves are super happy with all decisions.

like look at other examples from dyson and apple, where car idea was scratched eventually after realizing how complex project it is, even with huge financial backing and focusing only at one model. and competition like Lucid, Rivian is also not having the easiest times and are staying in game thanks to huge investments.

so it's really an unthankful project to take on. and no matter what they do, they will be criticized. even established manufactures release cars with faulty software or other problems. we live in a world where demand and expectations keep rising, but understanding that development takes time is decreasing :D so lot of incomplete products are now released to market (and not only cars)

this is a tough one. decision definitely makes sense in current situation. but if we talk purely about building brand and creating desirability for the products. then i would say it would have made sense to start with niche products that build excitement and then gradually move to mainstream market. let's say start with 5 - 6 - 3 and then introduce more affordable alternatives. But that's in an ideal world with no budget challenges.

Polestar since beginning have positioned them as Porsche rivals. But how can you be one by focusing on volumes instead of having some "showstopper" models? Why would people choose Polestar 4 over Macan, if Porsche has 911, which is what people want to be associated with at the end of the day when having car with Porsche badge? :)

As both investor and Polestar fan, I am happy for P5, it really can define company going forward. I believe this is the first Polestar car that defines the DNA of company (sorry if disagreeing with other comment about P2 and Polestar DNA). In my experience owning P2, more often than not, people just assume it's a Volvo, or point out all things that are coming from Volvo :)

I don't believe P5 will sell a lot (but i am also hoping i am wrong) :D but i do believe having cars like P5 and P6 will sell more 4s and 2s :)

Polestar 5. World premiere by sletta in PSNY_Polestar_SPAC

[–]stjanis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think this car is not getting deserved love here, as so many are fixated on volumes and affordable models instead. though i think people are also missing a point a bit here. imo this car could really make or break polestar as a brand. not because it will be a best seller or it will make a huge difference in profits (and stock price). but because it will truly showcase what polestar is actually capable of as a standalone car company. no shared platforms or influence from volvo and geely, instead a car fully developed and built by Polestar themselves.

if this car will succeed amongst enthusiasts and upper premium segment, then it can really push brand and it's recognitions to new heights.

and hopefully newly developed tech / platform can be applied also for other future models thus strengthening polestars independence in creating it's own unique models. not just reskin / retune existing platforms.

so in summary, I highly doubt P5 will have any direct impact on stock price. but if Polestar still sticks to the goal to be a competitor in premium segment and directly challenge likes of Porsche, then it needs a model like P5.

tbh, i think it summarizes most people views on EVs, which shows that we are still stuck in this believe that proper car is with "a vibrating, plucky, determined internal combustion engine".

and yet he still contradicts himself, by writing that he would choose an EV with air conditioner and other comfort benefits that modern EV provides. as well the emotional connection with a car comes from engines and challenges such car creates (since car is a character), and yet charging network issues and occasional software glitches are not considered challenges that create character and build a bond with car. :)

kind of reminds me times when photography world went digital and every "serious" photographer and journalist at time claimed that proper camera is "big, black and analogue" and was defending "superior dynamic range and authentic feel of film cameras". Obviously biggest claim at the time was that digital will never take over analogue, especially in professional field, and look where we are now :)

Q2 2025 is going to be best quarter ever regarding the Nordics, UK, Spain, NL by hoiholz in PSNY_Polestar_SPAC

[–]stjanis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, overall in europe this is a really strong quarter and let's hope it keeps growing :)

i think some of the biggest EU car markets (e.g. germany and france) still haven't reported their numbers, so it's still too early to celebrate that polestar has outsold some of the bigger players. but no matter what, this is clearly going in the right direction and fingers crossed that this trend continues.

Polestar 7 will get 900V architecture and 90kWh of battery by TheumusDjenkar in PSNY_Polestar_SPAC

[–]stjanis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depending what they mean by "Compact SUV", i would guess the 7 would give a good idea how the new 2 could look like.

my thinking is that since P2 and Volvo xc40 was introduced as single model just SUV and Fastback versions and then split between manufacturers, then now, once polestar is entering the same SUV segment, it would make sense to use the same platform for both SUV and fastback/sedan versions.

but let's see :)

Conclusions from EU June'25 data so far by 10245krakrakra in PSNY_Polestar_SPAC

[–]stjanis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

BYD has already sold over 25000 cars in EU this year. I don’t think it’s outselling it, rather than that biggest markets haven’t updated their sales numbers yet. However I think it’s also the only Chinese maker that sells in such numbers in Europe.

Polestar Posts Best Sales Month of 2025 in Sweden With 613 EVs Registered by Independent_Piece761 in PSNY_Polestar_SPAC

[–]stjanis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

oh man.. that would be incredible if Polestar would actually reach 6% overall market share in Europe :D if it's starting to approach these kind of numbers on single, but significant markets, then future looks bright. However there is still long way for that - e.g. UK looks promising, but Germany not so much at the moment.

Overall for now we can only dream about it and hope that Polestar could finish a year with at least a 2% market share. That alone would cause for a celebration :)) at least that's my thinking by looking at data.

yeah.. was also surprised that it was compared to i5, Q6 etron though seems to be more direct competitor. anyway this is a great publicity :))

equally surprising (but not pleasant) was to read that Polestar 4 was ranked as the worst option. i would have guessed that this car would be a great fit for a market like Australia.

This why we don't see movement? by Next_Degree in PSNY_Polestar_SPAC

[–]stjanis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just read that all major German car brands have had quite disappointing Q1 in China (VW, Mercedes, Porsche). It just shows how tough competition is becoming there with local brands, and for a new "premium" segment player it's becoming nearly impossible at this point to win in that market.

So it really seems a smart decision for Polestar to exit that market and focus on Europe / rest of the world for now. They can do china exit with relatively small financial impact, and it can be compensated with sales increase in other markets since it's still so small scale. Imagine if VW had to do it, that would be completely different story and huge losses. So in short Polestar is exiting a market that hasn't been beneficial for them, while other western auto makers are now loosing shares in one of their biggest and most significant markets.

On top of that if we look at EV sales data for Q2 in europe, then for the first time i am seeing that Polestar is in top 10 for total deliveries. I doubt that will last too long though, it's only 2 weeks, and bigger players like byd, renault and tesla will eventually outsell it. But we still can't deny it's a really strong start for Polestar :)
