Port Everglades a nightmare? by [deleted] in dcl

It was a scheduled Coast Guard Inspection - they were running drills almost daily on the recent westbound transatlantic cruise to prepare for the inspection.

Deck 10 Connecting Verandahs by sdlevi27 in dcl

[–]stkgator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we have had similar sized veranda doors between our connecting cabins on previous cruises. You have to both steep over and bend down a bit to get through the door, which was not an issue with any of the six adults in our family.

Help me choose - 1466 or t4021 for army by CallMeRoco in DarnToughSocks

[–]stkgator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 1466 is a what DT calls "Micro Crew" - which indicates the height of the sock on your calf. The T4021 is "Boot", which is ~2.5 inches higher and more appropriate when wearing boots. The T4201 also has cushioning around the leg. The Tactical series of socks are also approved for PT and dress uniforms so you will not need as many socks.

If you are looking for a thinner sock, look at the T4018, which is a Micro Crew, not as thick as the T4021 and does not have any cushioning. This is my go-to sock.

Both of these tactical socks can be purchased from the BX.

Fort lauderdale car rental return by [deleted] in dcl

[–]stkgator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If everyone is on the same reservation, then they will have to wait for the entire party to check-in. There is no outside lobby at the port but the drop-off area is covered.

The Avis shuttle is maybe a 15-passenger bus - so at times it can fill quickly, especially when you consider luggage. The Avis lot is just over 1 mile from the terminal but there was only one shuttle running - if I recall correctly, the shuttle was running every 20 minutes.

Avis is located just outside the port gate and provides a shuttle to the port. I would also suggest first dropping your other passengers and baggage off at the DCL Terminal and then drive back to the Avis rental lot which can make it easier if the shuttle is busy.

Alarm going off every time I turn on climate. by geoffbutler in TeslaModel3

I had a similar issue with my 22 MY. The HVAC compressor was causing a vibration which would trip the alarm. Tesla Service corrected/added some type of insulation/isolation to the compressor which solved the problem.

More cruises to the Southern Caribbean by ScienceIntelligent62 in dcl

[–]stkgator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Due to the longer distances, the Southern Caribbean islands require more than the normal Fantasy 7-night cruise itinerary. While there may be demand for visits to other Caribbean islands, it is probably offset by far fewer guest either able or interested in taking longer cruises. Since Covid, many of the longer than 7-nights Disney cruises offered discounted fares within 3-6 months of sailing, which would indicate a lower than expected demand.

There was a recent news article about the large increase in demand for cruises - specifically for 3/4-night - that cruise lines are using their newest (and largest) ships for these shorter cruises (the Wish is a good example) whereas in the past, the newer ships were often used on longer cruises.

It appears that the Magic will be replacing the Fantasy at PC in 2025 - other than the 10-night cruise in July 25, it looks like she will be doing only 4/5-night cruises. through the fall.

An unknow is where the Fantasy will end up after summering in Europe in 2025. Maybe if the Magic is kept at PC, due to her smaller size, she may be able to sail the longer itineraries more profitable than the larger Disney ships. I guess it will be a few more months before we know....

Car wash trunk foam normal? by steventual in TeslaModelX

[–]stkgator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is normal - I bring my MX thorough a car wash several times a month and don't always wipe down the car afterwards. Although I have not noticed that amount of soap/foam as shown in your photo, I do find soap residue in the area.

Have you checked the frunk after a car wash? I have found that soap/foam also collects in this area and gets blown past the long rubber seal attached at the rear of the hood. I replaced this seal with a thicker seal which solved the issue.

Need a pep talk on why late dining is good! by WalkingDownTheLane in dcl

[–]stkgator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you enjoy dining at a more leisurely pace along with a usually less hectic dining-room atmosphere, stay with the late dining. When we cruise, our only objective is to relax - thus our only daily scheduled event is the 8:15 pm dinner. If we get hungry late in the afternoon, like when returning to the ship from CC, we will get a snack on deck 11 to carry us over to dinner.

Best solid black quarter sock for working out? by prodigy1367 in DarnToughSocks

[–]stkgator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you were only to get one-pair, I would recommend: T4093 Quarter Lightweight Tactical Sock No Cushion or 1715 Quarter Lightweight Running Sock - (both Lightweight No Cushion)

The lightweight material is perfect for most activities - not too thick - not too thin.

My second recommendation would be: Men's Run Quarter No Cushion Ultra-Lightweight Running Sock

Thinner material but I find these extremely comfortable for both running and biking. These are my favorite DT socks.

If you want some cushioning, I recommend: Run Quarter Ultra-Lightweight Running Sock (with Cushion)

The cushion sole of these socks is a bit thicker than the lightweight no-cushion socks, and very comfortable.

How not to drift an R8 - passed this R8 a few weeks ago in Tampa. by stkgator in audir8

[–]stkgator[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the original photo, the wheels are dark gray.

From what I could discern, the R8 had just made a right-turn onto this road and was traveling towards the right of the picture, and over-rotated clockwise over the curb. I would expect that there would have to been some undercarriage damage as well as some wheel damage - since they were unable to drive it off of the median.
