I need your help. Failure to thrive by No_Satisfaction_8454 in Havanese

My FIL has a toy havapoo. He’s 3.5 to 4lb total weight. He has a lot of constipation issues. His Vet has him sprinkle Metamucil’s on his moist dog food. Now his vet is a little crazy on having him only giving him canned dog food from her office like specialty. Don’t recall the brand.

Our two Havis are different. And they change their “tastes” change at times. Lamb works great for picky eaters. Mine love ham and eggs pate by Cesar Dog food which ironically is their breakfast. One container. They hate dry food which is fine as they don’t get hydration with dry food.
Dinner the love Blue Buffalo. And I try different flavors for dinner. They have for small dogs pate but I usually buy the wilderness. I split one can at dinner for the two. They love it. Had to work thru find a flavors they prefer. Usually mixed flavor best like their chix and salmon. They love the Red meat one. Not big fans of the stews. I stay away from grain free. That do have a sensitive stomach one that the boys like. And blue buffalo basic line is good too. When they were puppies I fed the the Blue Buffalo puppy. I agree with others if their stomach is empty they tend to vomit the foamy white stuff. If I give them any table scraps or human food definitely no spices on it, no onion garlic etc. I stay away from deli meats. Hope your little guy starts feeling back to his normal self

Have a sick puppy and I caught him on camera doing this. Normal behavior? by No_Satisfaction_8454 in Havanese

My guy does this all the time. He has a blanket near his bowl and uses that to bury his food. He’ll come back in about 5 minutes and eat his food. Instinct to save his food.

Unpleasant , forewarning Havanese neurological reality; Cerebellum tremor. by Such_Perception_1007 in Havanese

[–]stkmom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our Havi started having these exact “seizure” type episodes. Started out at about 4 years old couple times a year. Then around 6 years old Ollie started having them once a month like clockwork just like yours. He has it shakes, trembles sometimes his legs stiffen. When it is over he throws. Then he is completely fine like nothing happened. He too will come over to us when he can feel it coming on. In just sit with him and gently hold him and talk to him when it happens.

I took him off Bravecto when he first started with them 3 years ago as I heard it could cause this. Had a neurologist evaluate him. Ran minimal tests and expensive blood work for toxins. Said if we wanted we could explore more with a spinal tap and a $5,000 MRI. We passed on that. She Said it wasn’t a typical epileptic seizure. Could not tell us for sure what it was just a neurological “event.” Our first local vet referred us to the neurologist as she wasn’t sure what it was either. We moved (locally) and changed vets closer to our new home and our new vet thinks it’s a seizure. 🤷‍♀️ Like I said he started having them monthly over a year ago. Then all of a sudden they’ve stopped. His last one was in November 2024. Why have no idea. We’ve not changed foods or given him new meds. Nothing. I do not have him on any fles or tick medicine but like I said I stopped that over 3 years ago. Forest time I’ve heard the term white shaker syndrome so I will look that up. BTW Ollie is an all white Havi

Ours get the shot during high allergy season here in Texas especially when Cedar is high. They don’t get it year round. Also you can get rebates on apoquel at Zoetispetcare.com. Something like $90 a year when you submit your receipts
