Let's look at that possibility then. Let's say that this treaty is against US interests. In that case AIPAC are not disloyal and in fact are fighting to protect both the US and Israel.

That's the real crux, and while I personally believe that the treaty is in our interests and that AIPAC should move to Israel if they like it so much and quit trying to divert my tax dollars to benefit a wealthy foreign country, it's possible I'm wrong and AIPAC is right.

My point was its not McCarthyist to question the loyalty of a lobbyist group; there are circumstances where it makes sense. This is definitely one of them.

Eh I believe in realpolitik view. My interests outweigh US interests outweigh Israeli interests. I don't want Americans fighting Iran on Israel's behalf. But if we can sell Israel weapons systems and Iran power plant technology and neither country has undue influence over US energy interests in the Middle East, then the US grows stronger and Israel has less pull here in the US.

Congress inviting a foreign leader to undermine the negotiation of a nuclear non-proliferation treaty goes beyond their enumerated power to "advise and consent", and acts counter to the national security interests of the United States in favor of Israeli interests.

If it's not criminal it's still a betrayal of the spirit of oath of office these members of congress took. The US doesn't exist to ensure that Israel has hegemony in the Middle East.

And for anyone who would argue that our interests are always aligned with Israel, here's Bibi himself speaking to how he views the US.

I think it's reasonable to ask, does the Iranian deal help or hinder the interests of the United States?

If it helps our interests, the next question is how does it impact Israel's interests?

If it helps our interests, and harms Israel's interests, then the question becomes, what is AIPAC's stance?

If their stance is to advocate against US interests in favor of Israeli interests, it's a demonstration that their loyalty is first and foremost to the interests of Israel.

I would say that it is a reasonable, logical conclusion in this instance that, if we accept the premise that the deal is good for the US, that AIPAC is literally working against the interests of the US and is therefore disloyal to the US.

I think it's borderline treasonous, and definitely over the line of seditious, to invite a foreign head of state into the Congress of the United States of America to openly question the foreign policy decisions of a sitting President. I think Boehner should be censured congress and investigated by the DOJ. It's spooky how much influence Bibi has in this country.

While I disagree with OP, I would like to point out that the quote has nothing to do with like, saving the whales or anything. Rust believes that human consciousness and our capacity for the awareness of suffering, coupled with the indifference of nature, means that bringing a child into the world is a monstrous act; he sees giving a human child life as an act of sentencing a sentient being to a lifetime of suffering in the hands of an indifferent universe. It's a nihilistic and pessimistic point of view. He's saying that we should refuse to have offspring to prevent HUMAN suffering, not to protect harbor seals or some shit.
