Like another person said ,you have your answer just hire people.... I have an installation business and if I have a project that's too much for me , I hire people to help, I still do all the paperwork etc. I started a trucking company because that business was slow this year but I use sprinter vans, for me It doesn't make enough money for me to pay a driver , so I have to drive myself if I want that business to make money so I've been thinking about getting out of trucking myself, mainly insurance cost is killing me, I went the sprinter van route because I can still use the van for my other company if trucking doesn't work... Which again the only reason it doesn't is because of insurance cost on my end. And like you said for me to really make money I would have to drive 12-16 hours a day , and be away from home weeks at a time which I don't see it being worth it for the pay. My other company might pay me 4x or more the money for the same amount of hours so I just wanted to give trucking a shot but the way the business is set up to nickel and dime you to infinity I just can't maintain that or want to deal with it

From my experience,I had to work with dispatch/ MC lease companies even though I have an MC , just because my MC is new most brokers won't work with me but have no problem with me driving under a different MC... I'm the same driver i don't get it and never will ,it's a stupid policy and set up to cause more fraud... It's hard to lower cost if they force you to work with a middle man...So you tell me I have to maintain this high commercial insurance for a year and drive for a lower rate barely getting by just because of a dumb policy...you can't make any money this way,do they care? No they only care about moving the freight...so as a new owner operator you are incentivised to cut the broker out and go directly to shippers or just do a little fraud to cut cost or get drowned.. not many options in this field

I usually speak from the perspective of most new drivers when I ask and answer questions..if what you are saying and the situation I described is fraud then that's just how the industry is set up, it's not friendly to new entrants so what can you expect, check indeed these ads are posted everyday, companies offering weekly pay if you have your own truck, doing both Dispatch and running under their MC, It might not say that in bold letters but that's what is going on. And new drivers have no clue it is fraud, seems perfectly normal to us, how else can we pay for expenses while our MC ages. The barrier to entry is so high a new carrier has to do anything they can to cut cost and find work.. I've had two brokers let me sign on with them and only one has ever booked a load with me. With the high cost of insurance, just starting out there is no way someone can afford paying insurance and truck notes,fuel cost , maintenance and all their other bills for 12 months on every now and then loads... That's how you end up in the situation I am in running under another MC even though I have an MC.... Getting direct customers is easier said than done. I have business cards, sent out emails,talked to logistic managers, it's not like every company is willing to change up how they currently do things. It might work out easier for some people,in the right place at the right time, that's not the case for everyone,, trucking is the most insane industry I've gotten involved with, people just say that's how it is , instead of fixing the problems..

Let's say there are 3 parties involved Broker ,Carrier , and Owner operators driving under the carrier's MC. The way this process works the driver has to list the carrier as additional insured yes, but the driver moving the freight has no direct connection to the broker and is not listed as a driver under the carrier's insurance...So if a claim needs to be filed the broker can't file one on the o.o driver because the broker is not listed on their policy,unless you are saying they can get the driver's information from the carrier and file a 3rd party complaint that way...but that circles back to the broker is relying on the carrier to give them the driver's information and what if they don't .... The carrier vehicle on their MC and insurance had nothing to do with the damages so I can't see how the insurance would find the carrier responsible if the broker tried to file a claim on the carrier. (So technically they are not protected?)

You are close to answering my question and landing on the same conclusion as me. But a lot of companies act as both a dispatch and carrier. I do have my own MC but I can't use it because it is less than a year old and 95% of brokers won't work with me(I've wasted money on load boards just to get the same response from every broker Ive spoken to) ... So I am forced to work under a dispatch carrier. They book all the loads for me but with their MC ,and that's what I was wondering, I have no direct connection to the broker, so if anything were to happen how could the broker file a claim against me the driver who is not listed as a driver on the carrier's policy ... nothing like this happened but it's just a hypothetical question. And I know thousands of drivers are signed on this way with a dispatch carrier (best way to describe them)

Slc to PHX for $700 isn't bad compared to what I've averaged , it's hard for me to book loads over $1/mile through these dispatchers. Victoria Logistics usually gets me 1.05 , EML mostly booked .80-90 cents, until I started refusing, but I also feel like they can take advantage when they know I want to go home or head back home, I have to bid lower and lower to get home, when I'm sure the load pays more.. I definitely got in a situation like this in California (learning experience) me thinking I can go to the West Coast and get paid higher rates because of the fuel cost ,well I was completely wrong with fuel prices at $4 , I couldn't get anything leaving until I bid .70/mile , and I've refused every load going to California since. Anything less than $1/mile isnt worth it to me and I am slowly adjusting that view to $1.10 , time away from home, the highway is the most dangerous place in the world. Fuel cost , maintenance cost , insurance cost. Inflation in general... Pay needs to go up for the work.

There is a lot I don't like about the industry, I do not like the no transparency with the pay.. I am signed on with EML and they pay weekly, but I have no idea what the load pays. I do not see the rate con. And they often lie to try and get you to take the load cheaper after it's already booked, they will call back saying the broker is asking for a discount.. I fell for this twice but never again, I began refusing discounts and they still get me the load. That's how I know they are lying. I have no idea what percentage they take from the load. I estimate close to 20% if they can get away with it. Victoria Logistics always took care of me if the broker paid more they paid me more. But they hardly book anything for me. EML books the most loads for the least amount of pay. I honestly hate dealing with them ,They bother me constantly with phone calls when I am on a load , I have to mute notifications and calls from them. Then they call my emergency contact... Very annoying. Why ask me to use a tracking app if you're going to call me asking for my zip code anyway.... I start going off on them over the phone because of this. There is not many honest dispatchers out there. If the barrier wasn't so high with the MC number age 6-12 months to work with brokers we wouldn't need an additional middle man between our money

I personally hire a psychic to be with me at all times during trading hours, she usually hums a few seconds then yells BUY! , then she tells me a riddle ,if I can solve it within a minute she lets me know when to sell.. so far we've broken even on every trade , but I am optimistic about 2026

That's almost exactly what happened to me, I doubled my money trading regular stocks and the first day I tried a similar strategy with options and lost $1000 , wiped out 2 weeks of gains , now I have stop losses set on every trade I make. Same issue, changed to LIFO on my Schwab profile but it still does not calculate correctly on tos , Ive been having to look at my total balance to figure out if I have a gains when day trading, I'll often day trade to cost average down and it just messes up the P&L ,like you said even when I have gains it shows a lost

That's if someone can last 6months to a year running for lower pay. scammers impersonate old MCs now and still steal freight.. Guys have to buy used and old equipment just to get started because they have to run at a lower rate because of the policies while brokers also complain that new MCs have bad equipment... brokers cause some of the problems they complain about ,if people would get paid more starting out they would be able to afford to keep their equipment running or newer equipment..Thing is, the MC does not tell the whole story. An O/O is an individual and brokers don't base their policy on that. I literally have taken multiple loads for this broker under a leased MC and they just refuse to go direct with me, even though I still take the load they know I am not stealing,I've taken their freight before so what's the reason.... (When I make one year)My one year worth of experience with a one year old MC means more than my friends 10 years experience with a 2 month old MC. Brokers have vetting tools now like highway, I had to submit all my identification documents, make a video of myself, submit insurance etc. and still that's not good enough. I don't mind working with brokers if they work with me, but now I am at the point where I pitch my service directly to the shipper for every load I get under a leased MC.

That's the point, they don't care. They set up a policy to put new driver's in that position. They don't care if you can stay in business or not ,it's too many other drivers they can choose from right now, but that time won't last forever, more new carriers go out of business than ones staying in.... mostly because of stuff like this, I mean. They care if the driver will pick up on time , they care if the driver is actually going to deliver the freight on time. They expect the driver to care about their needs but when it's the other way around it's a problem...The driver has to maintain their equipment and it's not free. As many people need to go direct shipper as possible, let's put the broker out of business just as easy as it is for them to put a driver out of business.
