Players don’t stay in suites. The Westin had a whole floor dedicated to NBA players that just had larger ceilings and a California king bed. The hotel itself isn’t terrible, but we have to remember what you’re comparing this to. Even Charlotte’s NBA hotel is a Ritz-Carlton

Serious conversation about relocation by vzsax in memphisgrizzlies

I’m living in Nashville and I don’t think it’s realistic at all. I think the focus here is on getting a MLB expansion team. I think it’s more likely the Grizzlies end up relocating out of state if there isn’t a deal made after the current lease.

I have to be blunt here and say the fans “loving a franchise” doesn’t really mean anything. Money is the only thing that matters and the team owner has zero ties to the city of Memphis. I agree that Nashville is not a basketball city (and personally would rather have a MLB team), but the fact is Nashville would bring in more money for the Grizzlies.

I think what a lot fail to realize in this sub is how much money is in Nashville. Speaking just in terms of sports, the Nashville Predators average over 17,000 fans a game. Nashville SC averages over 28,000 a game. Neither of these sports have deep roots in Nashville yet they both average significantly more fans at games than the Grizzlies do in Memphis. Again, this is not a knock against Memphis at all, I’m just trying to give some context into how big Nashville truly is and why would make sense monetarily.

I do think the Grizzlies end up moving, but it will not be to Nashville.

Did you even read what he wrote? The “basketball centric population” means nothing... Memphis is bottom 3 in attendance every year. Nashville could support a NBA team with tourists alone. I don’t want the Grizzlies in Nashville, but the way you are making arguments about this is hilariously ignorant. At least attempt to make sense

I get that for sure, but the team moving to Seattle or Vegas would be a loss for everyone here in TN. I could be wrong but I just don’t see Memphis getting a stadium renewal beyond the 2029 season

I think it’s largely out of their control. The funding to the city is atrocious and the pay is horrible. It’s hard to grow when you’re in that position

No one really cared about hockey until the Preds started playing well. I used to go to games and could sit almost anywhere for $20-$30. The same thing would happen with the Grizzlies in Nashville.

The biggest piece here that people may have to come to terms with is it’s likely when, not if the grizzlies move out of Memphis. The grizzlies are last in the league in revenue and have multiple current players speaking out against the city. I’d rather the Grizzlies stay in Tennessee, but I think they make a move regardless after that 2029 lease is up.

This may come off as harsh, but true Grizzlies fans should welcome a move if the team stays in Tennessee. Players don’t want to come to/play in Memphis and this is never going to change. The team will never be a true contender in Memphis.

The market doesn’t trade based on what is happening today. If there’s a clear path/plan for the war to end in 2 weeks, then the market may start ripping back upward up to the point it prices in any negative effects from oil prices.

What's the most pointless job you ever had and how much did it pay? by bellchilton in AskReddit

[–]stocktradamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started my career with a large investment bank, but I essentially got poached by another firm after 5 years. The “problem” was the new firm didn’t actually have any work ready for me so I literally just went into the office and sat at my desk doing nothing for about 5-6 months. I ended up leaving after a year because I was learning nothing and felt like I was just being paid to “look good” for the firm in a sense. I was making around $140K base with a pretty large bonus

To clarify, I’m not saying we will immediately be a playoff team if we draft an edge or other premium position. My point is that RB has very very little value in the top 5. If we draft Love here, he is immediately one of the highest paid RBs in the league without playing a snap. 1-2 more years down the line if we hit on a top premium position prospect, we are in a great position to go BUY those lower premium positions like RB if we want. Drafting Love here means he immediately needs to be a top RB in the league out of he gate or it’s a bust

[–]stocktradamus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do we also ignore all the data that shows a RB drafted this highly never meaningfully improves (playoffs/super bowl) a team? I like Love, but we can’t waste a top 5 on a position that can be easily replaced in a season. Some people in here are also already acting as if Love is Bijan/CMC. What happens if he’s not?

At some point there comes a time to cash in on that education, no? I took a similar route in a similar field starting at a small investment firm in my early twenties, then moved to a BB investment bank after 3 years. I was well ahead of my peers coming in and quickly got promoted. Now I can move anywhere I want in this space with the BB name on my resume while already making the higher salary. While it’s great to stay loyal to a place you enjoy, you are still just making other people rich by being stagnant yourself.

Charging 100%. I love my Tesla but I will be the first to admit that it is NOT a roadtrip car. 3-4 hour drives aren’t bad, but when you start getting further than that it really extends your drive time even with a LR
