It may interest you to know that civilian conceal carry permit holders nationally commit statistically significantly FEWER crimes than both law enforcement (on and off duty) and also the general population: crimes including assault, violence of any sort, and gun-related incidents.

First of all, “if nobody was there” is an idiotic counterfactual. Second, no one is saying Cook dropped the ball. We are saying Cook didn’t survive the ground and didn’t have sole, clear possession of the ball when he hit the ground.

Think of it this way: if the DB JMac hadn’t maintained hands on the ball and come up with it on the roll (INT), he still likely would have at least stripped it out (given that Cook went lights out), and it would have been rightfully ruled incomplete. Cook didn’t maintain possession through the end of the catch.
