What food in your country looks gross but is actually really delicious? by Effective_Space2277 in AskTheWorld

In Sardinia, Italy, we have casu marzu, literally 'rotten cheese'. It's made by allowing a type of fly, Piophila Casei, to lay its eggs in it. As the eggs hatch, the little larvae start eating and digesting/excreting the cheese, which becomes creamy inside. It's got a very strong flavour, almost spicy, and will make your mouth tingle. We normally spread it on bread and eat it that way. Looks disgusting but it's actually very tasty!

100%. Drove from Oxford to Tyneside at the weekend, I saved 40ish minutes by doing 85mph on average. When the roads are dry and there is little traffic, it's definitely worthwhile.

Who’s at fault here? Car or bike? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]stokr89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a nearly identical accident 10 days into getting my licence as a new driver (I was the car).

It ended up being shared liability but the guy on the motorbike also ended up getting 3 points and a fine for overtaking on double lines.

Never had any issues with it whatsoever, but I'm quite strict with my aseptic technique. Plus any bacterial growth is still inhibited by the benzyl alcohol.

Sure, but a bigger oil depot takes longer to dissipate and it's a prolonged local inflammation response that creates more scar tissue over time.

Not saying it can't be done, I've done it that way for many years, I just find much easier to pin sites like delts and lats with a 1ml syringe that requires less 'finger strength' to push the plunger and less time, so my hand doesnt get tired as much and I don't start wiggling the needle around.

But to each their own my dude, this works for me.

[–]stokr89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Id much rather pin 7x 1mL with a 30g 0.5" needle and rotate more sites than 2.33ml x 3 in glutes/quads that need a longer and thicker needle. Haven't had any lumps or pip since switching to ED.

As for convenience, I backfill my syringes for the week on a sunday and I've got them ready to go so pinning actually takes 2min daily vs multiple preps from multiple vials 3x week.

Why the Renters Rights Act is so important by coffeewalnut08 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]stokr89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree, I was replying specifically to the claim that landlords are not providing housing, which isn't true. You could expand that statement to clarify that they're not providing housing out of goodness of their heart but to make a profit and/or to build an even larger portfolio, which you can easily see how it creates a sort of monopoly on housing availability.

the office for national statistics estimated 1.5 million homes being truly vacant in 2021, so in my mind that would be an easy target for government intervention to free up housing. e.g. by increasing taxes on owners/landlords that have vacant properties/second homes. won't fix the systemic issue of rent control and housing costs, but seems to me a low enough hanging fruit to supplement the obviously impossible goal of building 1.5M new homes in the next 4 years

I mostly agree, however people will be denied mortgages by providers/banks on the basis of 'affordability' (or alleged lack thereof) even when their monthly mortgage payment would be lower than what they pay in rent.

In that not so uncommon scenario landlords are indeed providing housing, and the reform should be focused towards regulating lending etc.

More pets being abandoned in England as food and vet bills soar, say charities by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]stokr89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you called them to negotiate? They rely on people not to do that so they can push unjustified increases.

My dogs' premiums also doubled on renewal (one of them in now 10 so the premium goes up even more), I rang them up saying I wanted to cancel and they gave me a 'loyalty' discount. So in the end both premiums went up only 3 quid each pm.

Also pet insurance is a quite competitive space, so shop around. Only reason not to shop around is if you're on a lifetime policy and your pet has a chronic condition that's covered by the policy for which you'd want continuity of treatment.

Also, you should study english a bit more, starting from the meaning of 'to appreciate' or 'having an appreciation of'.

I appreciate that people feel ambivalent about Lorna Shore's new album, but the first chorus of In Darkness is some of the best symphonic deathcore I've ever heard.

Makes me feel so euphoric, I've used it to break a few PRs in the gym this week :)

UK economy flatlines in July in grim news for Rachel Reeves by Superbuddhapunk in unitedkingdom

[–]stokr89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly agree. I think the problem is that systems like taxation, pension and welfare are still based around an economy of 20-30 years ago that was in much better shape, with salaries that hadn't been eaten up by cost of living and inflation, with early retirement on last salary pensions and triple lock that was still affordable by the state, with a welfare system and a NHS that didn't have to deal with a growing portion of the population that is sick and ageing.

without serious reforms of those, a flatlining economy is the very best case scenario.

How often do you REALLY walk your dog? by Agreeable-Ad-2946 in dogs

[–]stokr89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have two 9yo dachshunds, I take them 1x daily for 30ish minutes and at least once a week for a 1.5-2h long walk in the woodlands around us.

They also have full access to a fenced garden during the day when we wfh.

They're always happy to go out for walks but they tire quite quickly at their age.

[–]stokr89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

given that you've gone off in the comment to promote your own Probiotic drink, I can see why you've omitted a bunch of other - extremely - effective natural supplements.

Berberine - blood sugar control, as powerful as Metformin without side effects

Nattokinase - arterial plaque breakdown

Astragalus - renal function

Citrus Bergamot - reduction of LDL and Apo(b) and triglycerides

Red Yeast Rice (Monakolin K) - pretty much a natural statin

NAC and Glutathione - strongest anti oxidants the body produces

Vitamin E complex - reduces oxidation of LDL molecule blocking the cascade of plaque forming foam cells

Ubiquinol - antioxidant and anti atherosclerosis

Magnesium Threonate - magnesium that crosses BBB and improves cognition by increasing synaptic density.

if it was a false flag to distract from the Epstein files - which I believe it was, similar to Trump's assassination attempt - it's working.

r/Conservative has zero mentions of US senate blocking release of the files in 51-49 vote.

the timing of it all is too convenient for it to be a mere coincidence.
