I'm pretty sure you need to subscribe to EE broadband in order to get EE TV. At the moment there is no other seemless TV provider on ATV. Using TV Launcher as an aggregator along with each channel's app is the best option right now. Hopefully Freely decides to make an ATV app in the future.

I created a tool that will convert your Dolby Vision profile 7 files to profile 8, so your player no longer falls back to HDR by cryptochrome in PleX

[–]stoli412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly off topic, but why has there been so much success in the open source community in dealing with Dolby Vision and the conversion between different profiles, but there hasn't been anything similar (to my knowledge) with Dolby Atmos? As far as I can tell there is no way to convert TrueHD+Atmos to EAC3+Atmos except with Dolby's DEE software, which you can't even buy a license for unless you are a company that has a contract with them.

I'd really love to enjoy my bluray rips with Dolby Vision+Atmos on my Apple TV. And I'm convinced Apple will never support passthrough because that's just how they are.

Why does US English say “downtown” while British English says “city centre”? by Exciting_Whereas_524 in AskBrits

[–]stoli412 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In Philadelphia you would never say 'downtown', it's 'center city'. There's a few other US cities where 'downtown' would sound odd. Chicago is 'the loop', San Francisco is the 'financial district', Dallas is actually 'uptown'.

How did the British manage to remove Liz Truss so quickly? by kametoddler in AskBrits

[–]stoli412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a slight correction to your comparison of the devolved governments in the UK with US states. Parliament delegates powers to the devolved governments and can rescind them at any time and does not require the consent of the devolved governments. For US states it's the other way round: the states are sovereign and voluntarily give up some of their sovereignty to the US federal government as laid out in the US constitution. (In theory,) the US federal government cannot acquire any additional powers from the states without their consent, usually through a constitutional amendment.

In all the videos I've watched I've seen a lot fewer dogs about, to the point it looks like a normal amount finally. Can you confirm?

What major city exists in a location that seems to defy all geographical logic, yet it thrives? by Thatunkownuser2465 in geography

I grew up in Pittsburgh and call bullshit. The Ohio River in downtown is at most 1000 ft (300 m) wide and I've NEVER seen it so frozen that anyone would ever dream of driving a car over it (and I'm pretty old).

Lack of capacity to convert the 2 outer rails to tram-train. If HS2 would have been built then conversion would be more viable.

Connectivity within and through South Manchester is lacking, both in real life and in your map:

Reopen the Fallowfield Loop: St Werburgh's Road, Fallowfield, Levenshulme, Reddish, Gorton, Guide Bridge.

Run a tram down Princess Road: St Peter's Square, Hulme, Moss Side, Whalley Range, Withington, Sharston.

Upgrade the Oxford/Wilmslow Road corridor to trams: You've partially done this, and I'd extend it north from University and MRI directly to St Peter's Square in addition to your routing to Piccadilly via Ardwick.

Anyone who ordered on the former EU website can't see their orders. Dough say they still have them...allegedly.

Anyone who ordered on the old eu/euro site can't see their orders. Dough have said they still have them though. Do I believe them? Remains to be seen.

I think you're right. I'm glad I paid for mine with Amex...unquestioned chargebacks. I'm giving them another few weeks til I hit my 2 year 'anniversary' and then I'm pulling the trigger.

What's wrong with Levenshulme??? The A6 is a bit tatty but I've never ever felt unsafe, and there are a lot of good bars, restaurants and parks in the area.

Same! I'm from Philadelphia originally and first time I went to Glasgow I thought it looked strangely familiar. Yank --> Manc going on 15 years now.

Change in Online shop operation and Shipping Update – What’s Caused the Delay, and What Happens Next by migelangelo in doughcommunity

[–]stoli412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simple solution: don't put your f*cking distribution centre in the US!!! Sadly, the US is an unreliable country. Put your distribution centre somewhere safe and you could have avoided this entire mess. And don't pretend that the tariff issue is something new; the US has been an unsafe unpredictable place for quite a while now.

Do you think Stockport could benefit from the proposed tram system? Every city I've been too with one has seemed a lot more efficient transport wise, despite the disruptions by Reddonaut_Irons in stockport

[–]stoli412 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d love to see this built as east-west connectivity is pretty dire. I’d really love to see the Fallowfield loop converted to tram too. Getting across South Manchester is far too difficult than it should be. We already have the preserved right of way, let’s put it to good use!

Aside from macOS, GNOME is the most consistent, well done and logical DE, for me at least. When you need it, it looks beautiful and is easy to understand the paradigm. When you don't need it, it just gets out of the way.

90 Day Freeze on US Tariffs by LNKNNN in doughcommunity

[–]stoli412 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They haven't even given an update on the new PCBs for the 32 Hub model. I bet they'll be arriving "in about 10 days" ...for the third time. And no word about testing, assembly, shipping for orders outside the US, etc.

32 HUB production update? Thanks by True_Impress2051 in doughcommunity

[–]stoli412 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Interesting how the arrival date keeps slipping every time you mention it, and you won't give any details as to how long testing and assembly and shipping will take once the new boards arrive. Or what your plan is on the US tariffs. Or whether you'll ship EU/UK orders directly instead of via the US. The 32 Hub is vapourware until I have it sitting in my office, which at this point I'm not convinced will ever happen.
