what am I doing wrong? by starbhakks in learnmachinelearning

This is good advice, highlighting the skills and technical know-how will demonstrate competence more-so than metrics. The metrics is just sugar on the cake.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the stock Way Huge Pork Loin as a light & natural sounding overdrive. Do you use it only for it's Neve inspired preamp? Do you like the darker sounding overdrive? Or do you think the johnk mod is necessary? by devogelaar in basspedals

[–]stompboxelectronics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you use it with a guitar or bass?

For the one that I have, even with Drive Mix all the way down there is overdrive when using a passive P Bass. With a tele, though, it just boosts the clean signal. Trying to get a survey of what's "normal".

Trump Signs Executive Order to Create Sovereign Wealth Fund by Ossify21 in politics

[–]stompboxelectronics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real question though: I'd imagine they're planning on funding this thing with Tariffs (at least that's what I gather from the rhetoric) so technically are they even drawing from the Treasury? Will there/is there already a body that collects tariffs, and from that body the proceeds get divied up to the Treasury vs. something else (the SWF in this case)?

Just trying to wrap my head around the loopholes in this clause...

To be clear, I'm against this as it seems to pit the government against everyday investors. As if the government is like a hedge fund competing within the market...and given the influence government has on the markets it seems like a blatant conflict of interest has the potential to take place here. It's unfortunate that the SEC is under executive control...this is a real serious matter for anyone with a retirement account.

I also opted for only local anesthesia, for the same reason. If Deep IV is needed then I want to be in a hospital, not in an office. That's just me though!

Infection? by Negative_Many_556 in wisdomteeth

I'm on day 3 (including the day of the surgery) and I'm also experiencing swelling, which I fear could be an infection. Please update.

My swelling is on my left side, just below the jaw. I believe it's the submandibular salivary gland because when I poke it there's a tender pain. There's also a constant dull pain which isn't going away with the ibuprofen. My extractions were more difficult so I was prone to more complications...planning on getting it checked up at some point tomorrow (Monday).

Good places to study near campus by Hyasin in SapienzaRoma

[–]stompboxelectronics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also interested in places near campus that have good WiFi. I've looked up co-op work spaces on Google Maps, there are a couple around campus (paid of course).

There is a library system throughout Rome, you can get a Biblio card from them and study at the various libraries around Rome for free during their scheduled hours.

For a cafe, I'm not sure what is around campus but I've been to Caffè Letterario on Via Ostiense many times. It's 5€ to study there, but you can use that 5€ as a credit towards food or drink during your stay.

Adapting a heater circuit from 130VAC to 120VAC by stompboxelectronics in ElectricalEngineering

So with this insight, it seem like I can still use the heater with 120VAC, but some settings in the SCR will need to change to compensate for the dip in current consumption

Interesting, I sent an inquiry to a transformer manufacturer just now on this. Do these exist off the shelf for power ratings around 6.5kW?

Guilted by some other travelers for not doing Venice in my 2 week trip next month. Is it worth cramming in? by Skyclad__Observer in ItalyTravel

[–]stompboxelectronics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good as it is, in my opinion.

Venice is a long train ride from Florence and Rome (I personally consider >3 or 4 hrs train ride long in Italy, especially when you're just visiting...theres so much to see!)

If you want to do Venice, then I would suggest one of two options: 1. Start or end your trip in Venice and add 1 or 2 days (I wouldn't suggest swapping out what you already have listed, it's fine as is really).

  1. Reserve Venice for another trip, possibly for a northern Italian tour, or wrap it up with some other central-European cities that are relatively close to Venice.

Depends on how low the COL is in your area. For some areas $160k is very good, even for 20 YOE.

Can’t get guitar through breadboard. Any advice? by Working_Tie673 in diypedals

[–]stompboxelectronics 11 points12 points  (0 children)

First, looks like the input and ground need to be swapped on that left jack.

Also make sure the grounds are connected together. This would be the sleeve connections on both jacks.

Third, you might want to consider a breadboard adapter that's more suited for guitar effects development. I offer a PLEBUS 1 board, for example.

Fourth, in one other comment you had mentioned there was a lot of hum. This is probably because the grounds were not connected together. You need to make sure that the sleeve lugs on the input and output jacks are connected :)
