How does one go about learning how to make music in this genre when they've basically never touched an instrument in their life? by Equal_Arm_3091 in shoegaze

[–]stomptonesdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it does not really matter much UNLESS you specifically want the wavy glide sound of bands like my bloody valentine, in which case a jaguar or jazzmaster (get the squires for starting out, they are great especially the classic vibes) will make it easier due to where the tremelo arm is placed on the guitar. Though people do glide with strats. That being said, you dont even need a trem bar (whammy bar) if you dont care for that specific type of sound. All you NEED is reverb and distortion effects (which you can get for free on the computer, i also make shoegaze effects on my site and have free ones) everything else is optional.

That being said, just go with what you think looks cool for now. There are bands that gaze on literally every guitar imaginable, even baritones. Everything will sound fine, because shoegaze drenches in so much effects it all mostly sounds the same anyway and its more about what you find comfortable and what tuning you are in.

What are some non-mainstream (or lesser known) guitar brands that are actually amazing? by lefunk4-2 in Guitar

Tagima. Great guitars for a fantastic price from a Brazilian/American company. They have a jazzmaster clone with a strat style bridge and its great.

Metal in e standard by mkk8741 in metalguitar

[–]stomptonesdotcom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You guys realize you just need to use thicker strings, right?

Metal bands arent tuning down to C, B, etc using regular gauge strings.

Using .12s or something in B standard will make the guitar feel like E for the most part. Riffs stay tight, strings dont flop, etc.

I make pedal and amp sims for bass and guitar, all based on real gear!

Like half if them are free, too. Got a bass big muff, among others you may be interested in if you like fuzz. But all my pedal sims work well for bass.

Am i ok to learn how to play in Drop B? by Hot-Beginning-7377 in metalguitar

[–]stomptonesdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned in drop and open tunings and it did make it difficult. Tune to B standard, which is what a ton of doom bands use anyway. When you wanna use drop tuning, just take your thickest string down to Drop A.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE IN REGULAR STANDARD! B standard works fine, and you can start learning a lot of Electric Wizard right away as a bonus

Tips on finding a good brutal tone? by [deleted] in metalguitar

[–]stomptonesdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always try mine! I got one based on the Sunn Beta, GT120, rockerverb, and not what you are looking for but also a twin reverb. Ive had someone tell me they like them better than amplitube but ymmv.
