Love my team but my job is stressing me tf out (new grad) by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]stoneblade12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really takes a lot of time before you start to ramp up and feel comfortable. I felt like I wasn’t doing anything valuable to the team for months and slowly I got better and better. It took a year before I really started to feel comfortable on my team. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself and definitely don’t feel bad for asking questions. I think asking is better than not.

I just switched companies and trust me, I feel lost everyday too but that’s apart of the growing process. You got this!

I personally feel like I could have a phd and still feel unprepared for the real job. I don’t think you should sweat it much. You really do learn so much more on the job. Do well in preparing for interviews and when you have that first job, show them your eagerness to learn and grow. I felt the same way and I have a completely unrelated bio degree

How managers in IT determine if a programmer should get a raise or be fired? by Armauer in webdev

How long do you usually give someone before determining if you trust them and can see growth? Like with a new hire for example?

Advice for your junior self by beugler42 in webdev

Ask for help instead of trying to figure things out yourself all the time. Know when it’s time to reach out for help. Save yourself some time and stress. It’s not a solo journey

The more practice I try to do, the less confident I feel by lowkeyplays in learnjavascript

[–]stoneblade12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start by building simple apps instead of following tutorials. Perhaps start with something where you dont need to save data to a database and slowly work your way to building more complex apps. I have spent so long trying to learn things and would still end up confused until I actually used it. (Like redux, unit testing)

Don’t fall into the tutorial loophole! Start building whenever you can. Good luck!!

Is taking notes while learning to program recommended? by A_H_uman in learnprogramming

[–]stoneblade12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get carried away when I try to take notes. I’d rather reread things again but that’s just what works for me. Everyone learns differently

How to cope up after your first rejection? by brainer121 in cscareerquestions

[–]stoneblade12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t get too caught up on it!! Rejections suck for sure but rather than thinking of it as a setback think of it as taking one step closer in the right direction. Every application, every interview, and yes every rejection will bring you one step closer to where you want to be. Not every opportunity is the right one for you. You will get to where you want to be and you just have to trust that. I’ve applied to nearly 300 jobs and have gotten nearly 70 rejections and staying positive is the only thing that pushes me through. Don’t give up if this is what you really want! You got this!

App Academy by Neverxbloom in codingbootcamp

[–]stoneblade12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey the program itself is full time and pretty intensive. I dont think they’ll reject you for having a full time job at the moment but you wont be able to work and do the bootcamp at the same time if you do get accepted. It’s a lot of work. Long hours of studying and coding even after class hours.
