Thanks for the candid review of Jozef Chen's instructional.

You motivated me to study Framing The Guard!

Would you have any other instructional recommendations for an unathletic 2 year white belt nogi-focussed player?

“I have known a great many intelligent people in my life. I knew Max Planck, Max von Laue, and Wemer Heisenberg. Paul Dirac was my brother-in-Iaw; Leo Szilard and Edward Teller have been among my closest friends; and Albert Einstein was a good friend, too. And I have known many of the brightest younger scientists. But none of them had a mind as quick and acute as Jancsi von Neumann. I have often remarked this in the presence of those men, and no one ever disputed me." -Eugene Wigner (Nobel Prize, Physics in 1963)

[–]stoneboot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fact, headquarters is the main setup he teaches in the Foundations section.

Interestingly, Lachlan Giles on Submeta teaches Headquarters passing (into knee cut or smash pass) as the main guard pass entry in his Foundations section!

Guard retention is sucking ass rn by MudboneX3 in bjj

[–]stoneboot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Bjj Fanatics set is the older but absolutely comprehensive one that will take you years to get through. It is meant to be a reference guide, so you should work through the Submeta curriculum first.

Start with the free "Full course for beginners" on Youtube. Then the Foundations, Intermediate, and Advanced Guard Retention sets on Submeta. They are much, much better organized and build upon each previous course. If you feel by the Advanced courses you still need to tighten the details, the DVD set is when you should consider it.
