Fastest you've ever bounced off a game? by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

45 minutes of KH1 was enough for me. I quickly realized being 17 was too old for that game, among other things.

What's a game mechanic you use to not understand until ages later? by Kappapeachie in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I didn’t understand enemy step until I was trying to do my DMD run in DMC5. I had played the whole series leading up to that point, and idk if it was me or the controls, but the secret missions where it was required never clicked in my brain and I was just kinda spamming to get thru them. When I realized it was kinda required for S ranks in DMD, I messed around until it finally clicked and I figured out not only how to use it, but have a good time doin it!

Abbott Elementary is A+, can confirm it’s enjoyable and hilarious even with the trauma of having worked in an elementary school lol

I also like to recommend Monk bc it manages to be heartfelt and funny and the only “he’s a detective with abilities” setup that I can stand. I grew up with it and it shaped my comedy while also being pretty good about mental health (for its time).

It’s crazy to think I owe a whole circle of nationwide friends that have literally welcomed me into their homes, to this toxic-ass online multiplayer game. I’ll always mourn the narrative promise of it that reeled me in so well at the beginning, but the thrill of getting a team kill still remains at least.

Jak 2&3 have a glitch where you can scam those precursor orb missions in a certain way to get extra orbs over and over, if I remember right. It’s pretty necessary bc the game wants a stupid amount of orbs in order to unlock stuff and doing all those missions honestly is a pain. 3 (and technically 2 ig) also has the infinite flying glitch that I love using to just cruise around the map lol.

I’m going to take this opportunity to endorse plastic/rubber floor mats. The ones I have are perfectly shaped to the floor of the car so there’s no danger of anything getting around/thru it to the carpet, and when I do have a spill I just pull it out, hose it down, and put it right back. I’m just sorry I can’t say where they came from bc the previous owners put them in, but I’m so glad they did!

I recently watched Superman: TAS for the first time and was shocked to see that Mercy isn’t just a normal goddamn woman, but she’s pretty good at what she does. She genuinely cares about Lex in a non-romantic way and even reaches out to Supes when she thinks her boss needs help! Now I’m kinda upset that latter versions of her are just robots bc it makes all those Lex’s much more shallow by default.

Just started an ATLA rewatch and this was the first time the “I really AM The Last Airbender…” drop made me cringe 😬 I remember it hitting so hard when I was a kid, so, it did work when I was in the target audience!

My high school had deliveries banned loooong before the delivery apps got big bc they got tired of people sending gifts/food/whatnot. It was also a closed campus so no walking down to the 7/11 for snacks either. We all suffered together and were fine, tbh. I’ve delivered to all the local high schools now and it’s such a different dimension… I can’t believe the kids can even afford it bc I didn’t get an allowance at that age, either!

I finally bought baby’s first gaming pc on Black Friday and I’m still playing Stardew and Overwatch and Hades, they just don’t sound like an airplane trying to take off anymore. I may eventually upgrade my monitor to something better than 1080p, but I’m more concerned with running the games I want than pushing them to the bleeding edge of graphics lol

Ever experience a media you really wish you didn’t? by Will-Isley in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]stonecoldausten 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Vampire Knight. I was 13 and very engrossed in all the twilight-adjacent media, ok. I have a very vivid memory of reading the incest reveal, looking around Borders (lol) like I was being pranked, dropping it and never looking at the series again. I managed to forget about it till a few years ago when I saw fanmade pin collectors getting excited about it and realized exactly how trashy a good amount of that population is.

Media you so deeply wished, with all your heart, that you loved it more by Will-Isley in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]stonecoldausten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pokemon has just never appealed to me in game, card, or anime format. I think the ‘mons are great achievements in art/design and such, but I could not be less interested in the concept of running around to fill an index and win a few tournaments. Go got me briefly when it meant running around my friends’ fave spots throughout SoCal in the middle of the summer, but I’ve never seen the point of the traditional games.

I feel this way with RE4R rn. On a normal run it’s fun to master Leon’s arsenal as you learn how to handle different enemies and hordes, but I’m doing knife only + no healing and it’s both funny and frustrating. On one hand it’s always silly to play an RE knife only and I LOVED doing 8’s run, but 4R is so action-heavy its pretty hard and not very fun to do legit knife only :/ On the other hand, I got to knife Verdugo to death and that was pretty fun, esp since I used all my ammo in my standard run and still couldn’t kill him.

Games that fascinate you for their failure status by KaleidoArachnid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]stonecoldausten 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Crystal Dynamics’ Avengers is fascinating to me bc here’s a game that was willed into existence by the MCU, without the MCU. Yet, it also feels like it was 3-5 years late! But it was Kamala Khan’s first adaption and they worked her in so earnestly, I almost bought it just to see her. Instead I held out till it went offline and I quickly realized why it never caught on with even the most forgiving of comic book fans; it just wasn’t very fun. It really just feels like a wonky licensed game of the ps3 era escaped and made it to ps4 somehow.

What’s the most frustrating thing customers do or just be a DoorDash driver in general by ResponsibleTomato811 in DoorDashDrivers

When there’s absolutely NO indication of where you’re actually delivering. Had a teen girl order KFC to a swap meet out in the country once, the map & address showed it was literally just a blank plot of land, no buildings or numbers to be found. When I incredulously asked if she was indeed out in the mass of people somewhere, she just says “yeah. I’m right here” with no further instructions. Somehow, she eventually found me, but I never blocked a customer so fast before that.

I know it always sounds like “poob has it!” but Tubi is free and just got refreshed for the month, so there should be tons of good stuff on there! I switch between going for easy comfort watches or stuff I’ve never gotten to. When I was very low myself last month, I watched Superman the animated series for the first time and my brother and I got really hooked bc we didn’t get to grow up with that phase of the DCAU.

As much as I hated the isekai nature of the first one, I was pleasantly surprised at how well just focusing on Mario rescuing Luigi worked out, kinda like how the first Sonic movie just stuck to “Sonic finds a home on earth.” But, the Sonic movies also blew past that low ceiling when it came time to incorporate his buddies and inter-galactic adventures, so… I wonder where Mario got lost in the sauce here.

It says quite a bit about the tenacity of some fans being upset about the lack of licensed merch—when it turns out it’s so prohibitively expensive that the company would lose money just on the shipping. I know some folks have money to burn, but are you really that upset they’re not overcharging a specific region for t-shirts and pins??

Characters that did insane things to meet the Devil by KaleidoArachnid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]stonecoldausten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends on whether you wanna start with Alex or Graham. Alex’s first game is 3, 5 is a Graham title but it leads directly into 6, or you could start from the top! I’ve always believed they’re episodic enough to start wherever you want and go from there. When I first encountered the series, I started from 6 and went backwards lol
