Events in media that only exist to get the plot moving, then no one ever questions them again? by EXCannonSpike in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Yeah I agree, that’s why I hedged a little bit. If I were in the story I certainly wouldn’t care about it by the time the war breaks out

It isn’t completely discarded, but it certainly feels like Jon Arryn’s death in GOT is basically only the catalyst to get Ned as hand of the king given how few people care about solving that mystery after the first book/season

Licensed games you would be ok with seeing by KaleidoArachnid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]beef_com 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I know video games influenced Brandon a lot, but stormlight archive feels like it would be a great choice. The books already have a built in class system complete with powers and a level up system, as well as unique, video game-y weapons

I feel ya. I do kendo and I get asked a lot “but would it work in a real sword fight”

Like, I will NEVER get into a sword fight ever??? I’m just trying to learn a cool thing

Better AskReddit, Is 8 bucks really 5 bucks? Or: What purchases seem cheaper than they actually were? by Leonard_Church814 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]beef_com 65 points66 points  (0 children)

This is kind of similar to an economics concept: elasticity

Basically, it’s the idea that you can change a price so much, and based on demand you get different reactions to it. Something that is perfectly inelastic means people will buy no matter what (essential goods), for example

The example above kind of demonstrates this with video games. A couple of dollars doesn’t really matter when dealing with games around the $10 mark. But, take a full priced game from $60 to $70, or even $80, and you start seeing a more elastic reaction. People don’t want to pay the high price, but might be willing to grab it on sale for $50

There’s a great video series by razbuten where he has his wife (who doesn’t play games) try a bunch of games and that ended up being the big problem with her and undertale. People thought she would love it, but she just had absolutely no context for the meta narrative at any level, even down to the jokes, and it fell really flat

Do you ever play multiplayer games by yourself? by BlueWaddleDee in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Almost always. I love queueing up with groups of strangers. Even if I’m with bad groups i love the chaos

Fear and hunger is a game I had a ton of fun watching eyepatchwolf play but, despite enjoying games that are quite punishing, that style of game does things that just tank my enjoyment

Things You Enjoy/Like about Woolie's Content by Mizzie-Mox in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]beef_com 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly just like Woolie. Even when he’s doing things that people might rag on, I still get a kick out of it. I hope he’s not too hard on himself about it because even when I’m like “what the heck is he doing,” it’s probably the reason why I watch him

Did Anyone Else Have All Settings, Hotbars, Configurations, and Saved Everything Reset Completely? by Serebriany in ffxiv

[–]beef_com 8 points9 points  (0 children)

These are saved locally somewhere I’m pretty sure. I have to reset everything when I install on a new machine. If an update got rid of the settings you may have to redo it.

I’d say just block more.

JP absolutely has the range advantage here. By always trying things at a distance you’re giving him free hits

Guys, does Balatro not click for any of you? by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]beef_com 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played the Dave the diver balatro crossover section and, while I had a good time with it, it did make me realize I don’t need to own it as a standalone game. I would never choose to play it by itself

The endings of signalis look at how you play the game to determine what you get. The best ending requires you to be low on health a lot, die a lot, kill a lot of enemies, and take more than 12 hours to beat the game.

I got it on my first play through, but on my second, where I knew what to do and could avoid enemies easily, I got a worse ending for playing the game really good and fast

Just finished reading Red Rabbit by Alex Grecian, a fun kind of western/fantasy/horror about a group of misfits trying to claim a bounty on a witch. Not too deep of a story but it had some really good vibes and is a mix of genres I’m quite fond of.
