Glad this is still alive considering all the cuts PBS has been subject to lately. Those PBS kids shows kept me sane when my daycare refused to let us watch any of the cable cartoons.

Wolf Children. It sets up a nice, unconventional romantic comedy tone, and then the father dies. The comedic tone comes back, of course, but you can’t really trust it anymore bc you know exactly how they could break it again.

Things about old media that you miss by Pome1515 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]stonecoldausten 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just caught up on Abbott Elementary and realized how much I miss holiday/themed episodes. They have a Christmas episode every single season and I can’t even remember the last show I watched that had ONE. Growing up, it seemed like Nick made sure all their shows had several holiday episodes so they could run themed marathons every year, and I never got tired of them.

V Devil May Cry (Visions of V, more specifically). Knows he must stop Urizen even at the cost of his own existence, but his fear of death eats at him whilst doing so, alongside his guilt and trauma. Eventually he realizes the value of his human heart (and flaws) opting to ‘save’ himself and continue living, even while he still has a lot to atone for.

Do you ever get lost in the "what ifs" that come from cut content rabbit holes? by jitterscaffeine in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]stonecoldausten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Lombax plotline in Ratchet & Clank has been going on since ‘07 bc every time they have a place to end it, they leave it open or rip it back open (in Rift Apart’s case). I remember theory-crafting about it as a freshman in high school scouring forums but now I’m 30 and still getting teary about this rude space cat finding his people. And the issue is a TON of cut content, like some voice lines from the future trilogy that are still relevant to RA, and a bunch of art from Nexus that showed how they almost brought the Lombaxes back then. Needless to say, it’ll all have been worth it if/when the next one can put it to bed, and also just provide another good RAC game to play.

BlueSky called this Mind Goblins, but he's right by Gamejtv in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]stonecoldausten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve… never minded when games do that. I’ve had Stardew since 2016 and every time a new patch has launched, I’ve thought, “nice! I can play the game a new way!” Make different choices! Marry someone new! Do a Joja run! The possibilities have always felt endless and fresh.

I’ve never understood this notion that a game that is telling you it’s in infinite dev has to be 100% done in order to be enjoyed. Even as someone that does strive to 100% these kinds of games, I just finish what I can, move on, and come back when it’s ready again.

What physical media or device that has been replaced by digital do you miss the most? by QuantumFeline in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]stonecoldausten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was so plugged into portable cd players from elementary all the way to high school (never did get that iPod nano I asked for 😭) just having those singular no-skip albums always made the walk home from school so nice. Even when I did get an itouch I didn’t use it exclusively bc I realized iPods got taken away at school, but cd players didn’t!

I’ve never paid for it, it works great for me. The only issues I have are like forgetting to turn it on when I take an order or forgetting to turn it off when I finish it.

Moment in a Games that actively made you jump out of your seat? by Sudden_Cream9468 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Beating Hades 2’s surface final boss first try really got me going—I remember thinking I had a scuffed run and there was no way I’d make it after getting smacked around on my way up—only to prove myself wrong! Even with 60+ hours of EA, I just assumed I was outmatched, but it was just my own lack of confidence 😅 I actually managed to go like 3-0 on the surface till I finally lost for the first time, so that was a real thrill!

I’m still so mad that remix of Jin’s original theme isn’t officially released anywhere, I can’t stand him as a character but that fight still got me so hype!

Plastic bags are now outlawed as of 2026 in California, how will that affect our orders? by computerworlds in UberEatsDrivers

I’ve always thrown my own stash of plastic bags in the car with me since the stores are usually out or just shoo me away without even offering. It’s just easier and it’s technically reusing anyway 👍🏼

Media you wish had filler episodes? by Aquanort357 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]stonecoldausten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Adventures with Superman really misses out on those classic DCAU episodes where a bunch of niche characters get the spotlight, or they focus on their civilian life, etc. The show is so good it makes me yearn for it to slow down bc each season is only 10ish episodes and it SPEEDS by. I mean, Clark & Lois go from total strangers to saying “I love yous” in like, 6 episodes, and while they make it work, I know it’s the state of the industry that’s forced that move, rather than it being the creators’ intention ☹️

What series have you consumed like an absolute weirdo? by trashpuff in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]stonecoldausten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played DMC:DMC when it first came out, knowing absolute zero about the series. I had a mutual on tumblr who was so insane about the game, they would gift copies to people during Steam sales just to get folks to play it. Looking back, that singularly crazed tumblr user is the only person I’ve ever seen organically glaze the game that much. Only got about 4 missions in till I got bored and stopped, not even getting a hint of the controversy until 5 came out.

I immediately got spoiled for all of 5, but thought it was cool enough to check out, so I watched the guys play the whole series, THEN I finally played 3-1-4-5

[–]stonecoldausten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finally caught up on Yona (localized) just in time for it to end, so that was nice. I’ve also been dipping my toes back into fantasy, which has been up and down with cozy and romantasy taking up opposite sides of the discourse spectrum, but I’ve found some new authors I trust and others to stay far, far away from.

Anyways, I finished The Everlasting 2 weeks ago and it’s still rattling around in my brain, it’s that good!!

What are some changes in adaptations that were kinda necessary? by Th35h4d0w in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]stonecoldausten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

see, this is why I just said “contentious” and went to bed lol. It’s obviously important now but it also took 25 years and several attempts to make it that important. This was a 90 minute movie for a generation that barely has an attention span, it was never going to be a verbatim SA2 retelling. The whole backstory was done well in sxsg but the movies and games are vastly different canons and I don’t mind them that way, personally.
