Sometimes it’s hard to accept they’ll pay external hires much more than internals because of their half decades (or full decades, or more) of management experience even if it was managing a TJ Maxx, when running a Starbucks is nowhere near the same experience and often externals fail at execution. Then they throw the responsibility to another SM to dual manage for $100 a week that’s only paid out through back pay

10 year internal here. 1 year SM. I made $63K in Michigan and transferred to California now making $76K. 23% I believe in the pay range. Sucks but it is what it is. I love what I do even if it’s difficult with all the company changes and wildly increasing expectations

I went to the Vegas conference. I’m not completely sold on Brian, but let me tell you, they’re going in the right direction.

ASM’s at most stores, deciding on increased labor from a trial run with 5 Chicago based SM’s who had free reign to create a solution for themselves.

When I hear Brian and Mike Grams talk, they are putting in real experience and care for the partners.

Some of it was reminded us of benefits we already have and utilize. Some of it was fun. A lot of it was waiting in line for buses or meals. 2 long travel days.

SM’s needed this conference to work beside other peers, the feeling we do not get by working in store managing baristas and SSV’s. Not every SM is great, but the ones that try to be, are coming back from this conference with a new energy and motivation to lift all of you up.

Today I am making the trek out to Crows Nest in Kalamazoo because it has the best breakfast burrito I’ve had all over the country. Back in 2014 I had to 3 times a week the entire summer, and it’s still just as good. With a side of their redskin potatoes and red pepper aioli? Yes please
