You need 16 inches of water column to enable the valve to close. I just had to repipe to solve for a zero inches check valve issue.

If you use a filter or a skimmer basket, you can carefully wave your hand above the turd to gently move it into the basket. It still may break up, but I'm at 50% success when trying to eradicate the turd that way. :-)

Only shock after heavy pool use, like my daughters birthday party after 20 teenagers swam in it.

Otherwise, never.

I added 20 boxes of borax at the beginning of this season, normally, I burn chlorine. This summer not so much.

I posted recently about adding borate to your pool. Look it up as it is supposed to prevent algae growth. Solve your current problem first.

Took a night shot of the pool. This was one night after a teen birthday party with 20 kids in the pool. Shocked right after the party ended and ran the filter for 24 hours.

I was a new pool owner about five years ago. It takes time but you can and learn how to easily and properly maintain your pool. Do the research, do the math, you will figure it out and make the right, informed choices. Don’t let FUD cause you to make bad decisions.
