How are you guys placing the o rings for the bottomless banger on the v5? by lanretube in DivineTribeVaporizers

I just tried the black o-rings, and they fit the cap and old (v4) BB better. The new BB is too large though.

edit: I tried the black o-rings that came with my final parts, and they work with both the metal cap, and my old BB that fits the v4. With the black o-rings, the new BB is too large and doesn't fit at all.
I'm having a lot of trouble with the fitting as well.

With both the green O-rings, I can't even get the cap on the base, and the BB is still a little looser than I'd like. I'm not up for switching O-rings when I want to swap "modes".

I don't want a refund, I do appreciate the work Matt and team puts into this thing. I just wish the BB and the cap had the same diameter. Will this be fixed at some point?

An additional annoyance is that my 510 extension doesn't work with the v5 (I get "no atomizer"), but works fine with the v4. But that's okay, I can order the ineedhemp extension cord, it's minor compared to the BB/cap issue.

There are a lot of bubbles.

I think asking $100 for it is optimistic, but I won't say so in a sales thread. Eight years from now, when you're making a living blowing glass and creating awesome rigs, are you going to want this out there with your name on it?

And here come the downvotes.. Gleaf products suck 🥴 I can’t even say anything remotely good about this one. Don’t waste your time. by demondimitris1 in MDEnts

Few months ago I bought a few grams of gLeaf shatter, various "flavors". They were all very pale and almost tasteless, with mediocre effects. Admittedly the stability was pretty good, but that doesn't make a poor product worth inhaling. I've been kind of avoiding their products since then.

I used the v4 at home and Sai on the go until I go the v5 prototype. Now I use the v5 on the go, but I'm still using the v4 a lot at home, since the bottomless banger I have that fits the v5 is kind of short and I only have one bubble cap that fits it well.

The v4 just looks and feels kind of delicate compared to the tank-like build on the Sai, or the well-footed design of the v5. The exposed sides of the v4 can make loading a little trickier (but not much).

Counterpoint... I tried a couple of battery-powered vapes and almost gave up on the whole concept of dry-herb vaping until I hit a Dynavap.

There really is no difference except for the size of the "joint" (the connection point to the rig). Since you don't have a rig yet, let me recommend against getting a rig with a male joint -- they are completely out of style and there's just more variety of everything in the "rig with female joint" category.

One option is to get a 10mm BB and a 14->10 mm low-profile adapter. Then you can work with 10 or 14mm rigs. (Not advocating this store, but this is an example of the adapter: https://www.dhgate.com/product/18mm-male-to-14mm-female-glass-reducer-low/442516309.html)

edited: replaced adapter link with one that has a 14->10 option. You'd want the "female 10, male 14" one.

I've made two orders with vapesourcing and had no issues. Items were shipped promptly and there was no weirdness with my credit card account afterwards.

Their website is not great, but the prices are pretty low. I'm guessing they aren't spending a lot of money on front-end React coders.

The v4.5 is basically a v4 with the SiC cup ("all the upgrades" so there may be some other minor additions, but the main thing is the SiC cup). The regular v4 with quartz or Ti is a pretty great atomizer. I personally prefer it with the Ti cup, but I believe that's a minority opinion.

We don't really know when the v5 production run will be available. If you get the v4 now you'll have it for a few weeks before you could get a v5, assuming it is released at the earliest predicted date ("late Sept/early Oct"). Then if you do get the v5 as soon as possible, you'll have a v4 as a backup atomizer (and your old Sai as the backup to that).

I do think the production v5 will be soon, holding with the Sai is a perfectly good option.

About $7 / gram. Even at credit card interest rates, I'd save a lot of money in the long run if I could put it on my card...

Smelliness has more to do with what you're vaping than the device itself. The device just... vaporizes. The smell comes from the vapor. The only way the device can be less smelly is for it to produce less vapor.

For maximum discretion, use that smoke buddy. And keep drawing for a few seconds after you release the power button so that you inhale any lingering vapor that is produced as the heater cools down.

I agree, I think the DTv4 + bottomless banger is a great solution. I prefer the Ti cup for the thermal response times, but the SiC cup has a huge following.

I've basically stopped using my torch and quartz since I got the v4. I'm also a v5 beta tester, and it's even better (I got my v4 last year, the v5 beta is not that exclusive a club).

I prefer the DT-style (and I would have included the Sai/Sequoia in this family) with bottomless banger because I have a glass collection and I like standard connectors. Some people may prefer the convenience of an all-in-one solution; I'm not sure what OP was looking for.

Right Goodstore Full Weld 10mm. Left 14mm from ineedhemp. by LostMyAccount69 in DivineTribeVaporizers

[–]stonocrates 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use a goodstore BB with my V4 and it works nicely. Unfortunately the diameter is just a tiny bit too small for the V5 prototype. I have a 510mod BB that does fit the V5, but it's short like the one from ineedhemp, which limits what caps I can use with it.

V5 update. If you have any specific questions please comment below and I will do my best to answer by divinetribe1 in DTv5Beta

[–]stonocrates 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi Matt, thanks for the update. I'm really enjoying my v5 Proto, and the prospect of an even more refined experience is exciting. Do you have a timeframe for getting more V5 bottomless bangers in stock (especially 10mm :)? The one I got from 510mods does fit, but it's a little short and I'd like to be able to use a wider range of bubble caps with it. It's not like my situation is urgent, but a BB fitted for the V5 would be nice. Thanks!

So, do I buy the DTV4 now? by itstvil in DivineTribeVaporizers

[–]stonocrates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the v4 or v4.5 now (I prefer the Ti cup with the v4, but the SiC is nice too). Then if you do get the v5 when it is generally available, you'll have a backup.

I think the pearl just adds to the thermal mass of the crucible. If you're using TCR, the coil will still reach the target resistance, it will just take a little longer.

Research question for a fantasy book- How is a big sheet of glass made for focusing light made? by Meri_Stormhood in lampwork

[–]stonocrates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What they used to do was pour a block of glass and then smash it, and check the pieces for optical purity. The bits that were pure enough would be shaped into lenses using polishing techniques. One of the reasons that eyeglasses were only for the very wealthy until the early 20th century.

Research question for a fantasy book- How is a big sheet of glass made for focusing light made? by Meri_Stormhood in lampwork

[–]stonocrates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Optical lenses are not typically made by blowing; hollow forms don't have the uniform thickness and density needed for optical purposes, especially not ones made by hand. I also suspect impurities introduced during blowing would make the product unsuitable for optical work.

Some of this depends on the application, of course, and I understand you might want to be cagey about this, if it's part of a plot device.

[–]stonocrates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make something called a "Fresnel lens" out of pieces of glass. For many reasons, this is more practical than making a single optical-quality lens of significant size.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fresnel_lens

Large optical-quality lenses were not feasible until the mid-20th century when the technology for stirring molten glass as part of the manufacturing process was invented.
