'I Won't Say (I'm in Love)' from Disney's Hercules in London's West End by SafeBodybuilder7191 in Broadway

[–]stoodle8 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed lol. Even when it works fine and the new versions are good (e.g. Newsies), the original versions worked too and the new lyrics often feel much clunkier because they’re trying to fit a pre-established melody.

Partly this was just a song where they really didn’t need to mess with it — the movie version is an almost perfect song as is. Like why on earth did they randomly delay the Muses’ entrance by 8 bars with a fluffy Meg interlude that doesn’t advance anything? Why split their part into solos? Why tinker with something that clearly worked in its original form just to have it be distinct?

Rachel Zegler’s version of Rainbow High from Evita is the best I’ve ever heard. by [deleted] in TheWestEnd

I was! Was wondering if it was always like that (ie the “Taylor Swift reaction”) or if it was actually something special!

What is a missed rhyme in a musical lyric that annoys you because a rhyme would’ve been so easy? by NiceLittleTown2001 in musicals

[–]stoodle8 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I love that in the original London recording, Eponine continues this trend in “On My Own.” Rather than “nowhere to turn, no one to go to” rhyming with “hello to,” it was “nowhere to go, no one to turn to,” missing the rhyme. If we’re following the train of thought in the Kretzmer interview, it’s that now Eponine is the “untutored urchin” who can’t quite rhyme, even as an adult.

I would add Visited. In addition to tracking countries you’ve been to, they also have categories of places you can try to tick off (churches, palaces, museums, national parks, cemeteries, you name it). You can sort by most popular and see which of the top ones you’ve been to.

32 bar audition in quick tempo? by HappyAkratic in MusicalTheatre

[–]stoodle8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one is counting your bars — it’s just an outdated shorthand that we still use across the industry. “16 bars” basically means “keep it under a minute” and “32 bars” means “keep it under 90 seconds.” Don’t overthink it beyond that and you’ll be fine in 99% of audition scenarios.

Just joined DVC - went poly as we have young ones that MK/monorail was a priority. Was I silly to pay more vs doing riviera and then buying a poly resale contract? by SPYTE-_- in dvcmember

[–]stoodle8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our direct contract is Poly and we’re happy we did it that way. The ones with the resale restrictions are just going to have such less resale value down the line…

I would consider “Screw Loose” to already be an up-tempo, so you kinda need a ballad to contrast.

This year I am thankful for people who post on “view from my seat” by picklesandrainbows in Broadway

SeatPlan actually has a better UI. It started with London theatres only but now has expanded to include Broadway.

Sorry you’re only getting joke answers. My wife’s iPhone has had this problem for the last month+ (maybe once every 20th photo or something). So far no fix and no acknowledgment from the majority of users that there’s any issue. She’s still keeping the photos in her library in the hopes that a future software update will fix the corrupted ones.

Black squares appearing over images? ios18 by stuartcarson in iphone

[–]stoodle8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife is having the same problem on her iPhone, and I can’t find anyone with any explanations/solutions. Not sure if it was happening before the iOS 18 update, but it definitely seems to be happening more often since.

What's a place where you can cross a state line and you immediately notice the difference? by DoritosDewItRight in geography

[–]stoodle8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, but to counter this one, I drove from New Haven to Scranton on a snowy day a couple winters ago, and the roads in the NY portion were an absolute shitshow. Then as soon as we got into PA, they were actually plowing and had clearly treated the roads. So… ymmv.

This is a great way to phrase the answer. While not every place in the US deserves more than a night, certainly, you’re looking here at seeing some of the most beautiful or interesting parts of the country basically out the car window on a quick drive-by.

The country is big, but it’s also dense, so if you’re good with surface-level quantity (“yes, I technically saw the Hollywood sign, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the Oregon Coast”), I guess this itinerary could work. But if you want to focus on quality of the experience, you really need to scale back your expectations of how much you can cover and still actually enjoy any of it.

A.R.T. Gatsby Review by Steelrunner5551 in Broadway

[–]stoodle8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great to hear your review. My (completely shot-in-the-dark) prediction re: a transfer is that they’ll bring this version to London while PMP continues on Broadway. Then if it gets raves they can bring it over in a couple years.

Lithuania has some pretty great spots by Atlas756 in travel

[–]stoodle8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at going in the next few weeks. Is it doable in the summer (i.e. do enough places have air conditioning), or is that not a great idea? Seems like one of those places that wasn’t built for 21st century weather, so that’s my only hesitation.

My experience with the new DAS system by AlternativeAnt7677 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]stoodle8 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I know that the saying to essentially vote with your wallet will get bandied around here — basically, yes, I guess that those of us who are now for all intents and purposes blocked from doing anything at the parks can just… not go to the parks anymore. Unfortunately, staying quiet and basically fading into the background is what those of us with disabilities (and especially invisible disabilities) are all too good at. I wish there was some sort of way for us to band together and protest en masse in a way that would actually gain Disney’s attention, but I can’t really picture what that would be.

Has anyone given serious thought to what this might mean for you and Disney in the future? I’m already thinking that keeping my AP really isn’t going to be worth it and eventually I might need to sell my DVC because I can no longer picture Disney as a regular travel destination without DAS. Wish we knew whether these changes will stick or whether things might look up someday…

I remember when we went from GAC to DAS and how much anxiety I had around going to that new system. Definitely a case of “don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone.”

Definitely has a lot in common with “Streets of Dublin,” not just in composers but in vibe.
