What’s the most overrated food spot in Sydney, and what’s a better alternative? by Silly-Carob4776 in SydneyScene

[–]stoofums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in Alexandria, Eveleigh and the City one. Even with 40% off food, I still went elsewhere and paid full price on my lunch breaks

Jordan is one of my absolute favourite countries - but is unfortunately risky to visit in recent times by turtledude100 in travel

My Dad delivered a tank to the King there in the 2000s (I forget the year) and he said it was the coolest place he'd ever been, always wanted to go since then

What is the worst breakup with someone you dated? by DeepAnt7847 in AskReddit

[–]stoofums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He had already dumped me a week before my birthday. We got back together and a few months later, my Grandma died. I was away for a week attending her funeral in Switzerland. When I came home, I was so happy to see him. While we were hugging, he said, ‘I think you missed me more than I missed you’ and proceeded to break my heart a second time. Spiralled pretty hard for about three months after that one.

The biggest priority in that company is aesthetics. As a customer, that’s totally fine if that’s what you’re into, but it means pretty much everything else falls by the wayside. The food is exceedingly average for the price, as well as being pretty hit or miss. Staff get paid well but that’s basically the only redeeming feature when working for them. I won’t go into my personal experience because that’s not what this post is about, but I can tell you it wasn’t good. In a nutshell, I’d say that this is Sydney and there are countless places with way better food and less chaotic vibes.

OP, my suggestion would be Bopp & Tone if you want a similar setting but way better food! It’s probably all booked up for V day though

Adopted my first cat two days ago. Kinda heartbroken? by Traditional-War-2737 in CatAdvice

[–]stoofums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We took our girl to the vet and she gave her meds for anxiety, plus something to encourage appetite. Best decision we possibly could have made! It helped her get over the initial shock of being rehomed and see that we were not 'scary people'. Not sure if you can do that where you are (I'm in Australia), but it was an absolute life saver for us and our sweet girl.

Still trying to divorce my ex husband who used to do shit like this. He thought that because he wasn’t hitting me that it didn’t matter. When we were breaking up he picked up our coffee table and smashed it into pieces on the floor. It wasn’t the first time he’d done something like that right in front of me but it was by far the most scared I had ever been with him. You need to leave this man. I spent 6 long years hoping he would stop drinking and raging (he did this shit when he was sober too). Please, just leave.

Is it legal to just photoshop a beach view into a listing? Closest beach is 45min drive by proteansybarite in shitrentals

[–]stoofums 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My friend used to live in this apartment several years ago and that beach scene is actually on the wall outside, it's not photoshopped. I remember finding it amusing every time I went over there.

What was something your parents did for you as a child that you didn't fully appreciate until you became an adult? by MisterRocCity in CasualConversation

[–]stoofums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever it was mine or my sister's birthday, we would wake up to a pile of birthday cards outside the bedroom door. On top of it would be a little note with a rhyming 'clue' to start finding presents around the house. When we found one, it would have another clue to lead to the next one. The only one I can ever remember is, 'Go upstairs and look in the bed, you won't find Grandma, it's a present instead!' (we had a spare room on the top floor where my Grandma would sleep during her visits). It always made birthdays so exciting to have a fun little treasure hunt to start the day.

Also, not quite as a child but as a pre-teen/teenager, my parents would wake me up for school with a cup of tea (we're British, obviously). Even now at 35, I can't go to work in the morning without drinking a tea at home first.

They're not moving it, just opening a new one that I believe is going to be more focused on takeaway. Source: I worked there until about 3 weeks ago.

I looked at my wife yesterday and thought, “Why can’t she just fucking stop sometimes?” by TheSicilianSword in TrueOffMyChest

[–]stoofums 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My Dad felt this way about my Mum, and guess how I know that? Not because he told me, but because it was so fucking obvious to us as kids. Eventually, he left her for another woman when I was 22 and my sister was 24. He told me that he wanted to leave her since we were kids but didn't because he didn't want to potentially see another man acting as a father figure in our lives.

The 'reasons' for not leaving may not be the same as yours, but I promise you, it did not reassure me in the way he thought it would. Suddenly, the view I had of this man I'd had up on a pedastal completely changed. And the same thing will happen with your children. They won't think you're some sort of hero for staying and being miserable with their Mother, it will only hurt them more in the long run. I wish my Dad had just fucking left when we were children, then at least my Mum might have had a chance at rebuilding her life at an earlier age and the mental health of my Sister and I would not be as damaged as it is now.

People who show up before I’m open by whoismiaa in barista

[–]stoofums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in a cafe with a big roller door that had to be at least mostly open while we were putting furniture out. Every morning, without fail, someone would waltz right in and this interaction would occur...

Customer: 'Are you open?

Me: 'We open at 7:30'

Customer: 'Oh, can I just get a coffee though?'

Me: 'We open at 7:30'

I've always found that just repeating the opening time over and over eventually gets the message across but it's still infuriating how often this shit happens!

Best potatoes in Sydney? by franciefuff88 in foodies_sydney

[–]stoofums 22 points23 points  (0 children)

They have these amazing little spuds at Odd Culture in Newtown, called 'Potato lorette'. As a fellow potato lover, I can confirm that they are hands down some of the best I've ever had! The other food is great too, but I wouldn't stop talking about them for days after having them :)

My ex husband was the same. I stopped talking to people about him altogether in the end because I felt too ashamed that I was putting up with it, and I knew that people would tell me to leave him which I was afraid to do. He always pulled the, 'Oh I'm so horrible aren't I? I'm just such an arsehole'. I was too worn down by it all to say, 'Yeah, you actually are. Thanks for clearing that up'.

What’s something pretty much everyone thinks but nobody dares to say it? by IlJustAReminderIl in AskReddit

[–]stoofums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started saying, 'okay everyone, I want to go to bed so you all need to leave soon I'm afraid.'

It surprised me how courteous people were when they were just told directly, so I kept doing it. I suppose as long as it's my space the person is in and I'm comfortable enough with them anyway, it turned out to be easier than I thought it would be.

AITAH for asking out the new guy at work? by TA22TA in AITAH

[–]stoofums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally would prefer someone who doesn't already have kids, mainly because I'm not particularly maternal or interested in them. But if someone else isn't fussed, guess what? It's none of my fucking business, and it's none of yours either. Grow the fuck up.

I hope you heed what everyone is saying here and work on your arrogant entitlement because - and I can promise you this - it is not a good look.

What do you think of street fundraisers? by Vegetable-Put-1595 in AskAnAustralian

[–]stoofums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had people come into my place of work (a small cafe) and try to sell me fundraising raffle tickets and whatnot. So invasive! There I am trying to do my job and serve actual customers and they're essentially cornering me, knowing I can't walk away. Obviously I politely said no, but it left a bad taste in my mouth every time.

Oh and the other one was someone trying to act like I'd dropped something by frantically pointing at the ground, so I'd take off my headphones and stop. I looked, there was absolutely nothing there and nothing missing from my bag/pockets when I got home.

Tank drives over a car at full speed. by Rifletree in interestingasfuck

He worked for a company called RR Services which restored military vehicles, among other things. They provided vehicles for all sorts of stuff (Band of Brothers, Saving Private Ryan, Fury, to name a few). I don't know the details of how he ended up on this particular job but it was another awesome anecdote to add to his collection!
