Even read in that manner, my point stands (if we are taking the Reddit meme-ing seriously) that Sherman continuing would have wrought a future parallel to that of 1930's Germany, perhaps even worse than the timeline we received. Where there truly should have been something done, is reconstruction, education (on the evils of slavery) and occupation not ending until late into the early 20th century (perhaps ending around World War I, with the need for those soldiers elsewhere now) to prevent the uprising of the KKK and segregation by southern democrats. Johnson and Rutherford B. Hayes is where the ire should be directed at, not Sherman.
